Working on a character, and need a little help. Thinking about a shapeshifter....

I used to play rifts, and I played a changeling with mimic. It was great fun, and I'd like something similiar.
I'm leaning towards sorcerer with transmutation/envokation.

Can you think of any good builds that would work as a shapeshifter? (I like druid, but what I read about ranger/shapeshifter is a bit disappointing. Thanks!

Taskshaper seems to be what you are looking for. It's a shapeshifter with elements of a mimic type character.

That does look good, but I'm not sure my GM would allow a third party class... I guess I should have mentioned that.

How about a sorcerer with Draconic Bloodline?

What's the lowest-level 'official' class (nothing third party) that allows the character to change (completely) into animals? Yes, the associated stat bonuses are important, but what about shifting into a kitten for a 'diplomacy' check? ;)

The only way to get the animal stats is to...well you can't. That was changed about polymorph spells in PF. The closest you'll get is the Synthesist summoner archetype, which is a single entity you can change into and appears around you as a see-through "armor".

Kobold Quarterly 15 has a spell-less druid shifter. Paizo publishes official stuff through them, so they aren't technically third party :p The class itself was not such a thing though.

Otherwise, Druid is the best there is at shapeshifting. Wild Shape gets a lot of perks that normal beast shape doesn't.

Yeah Druid is your buddy -- the urban druid gains the earliest humanoid shapeshifting ability as well, but this is at the expense of delaying the rest of your shape changing abilities.

Swing by the conversion forum here and check the Eberron threads on races. They have changlings there, though that's only switching between humanoids and may not be "optimal."
