Is the five foot step needed in the BB?

It struck me when I was teaching the BB the other day that without attack of opportunity and full actions, is there a need for the five foot step in BB games? I'm straining to think of scenarios where it has any relevance.

Stand from prone, 5ft step, cast cure light wounds on injured ally?

Retrieve potion, drink potion, 5ft step behind cover?

I don't know the BB rules, but even in "normal" Pathfinder, I find lots of situations where I want to 5ft step for some reason other than to escape AoO's.

There's one line of the GM's guide which says you can't cast a ranged spell if you are adjacent to an enemy. I only noticed it on the second read-through. It's probably one of the only reasons apart from taking cover.

In the BB there are no Opportunity Attacks, but you also can't do things that will trigger one (mostly). So the 5' step is important.

Being able to 5' step allows characters like Valeros to get both of the two-weapon attacks while still being able to adjust their position somewhat.
