What does a monk lose by going plate?

Rules Questions

Our Kingmaker campaign is pretty murderous and we already got 2 TPKs. I plan on playing a monk this time, but they're extra squishy at low level. So I'm thinking about going fighter 1/monk x, and using medium or heavy armor.

From what I gathered, I will merely lose the AC bonus (from Wis and monk levels) and the fast movement. But can I still flurry and (later on) use ki ?

edit: Ninja'd

You can still make unarmed strikes and use ki strikes, but without flurrying, you're stuck using the monk's 3/4 BAB (added to whatever BAB from the fighter levels), which is gonna hurt in the long term.

Optimally, if you are going to wear armor, take a monk archetype that loses flurry of blows. Maneuver master is a good one.

you only need to take sohei monk. you can flurry in plate. but you have to TWF when flurrying.

Not to mention you drop down to a 20 foot move. And acquire some nice armor check penalties to boot.

Yeah, that ruling pretty much murdered the sohei archetype unless you're TWF. Are they still rethinking the issue?

I think they're hoping to "rethink" it until people forget about it or get sick of complaining. *eyeroll*

EDIT: That "clarification" is also totally non-binding in anything outside of PF Society play ,so it should not matter for the OP. Until it appears in errata or FAQ or something, don't sweat it.

Thanks for your help. I can't believe I didn't see this. I read the FoB part over and over again without bothering to read the "armor" one...

Ah well. Thanks for pointing out my stupidity ;)
