Appropriate game balance (6lv)

Advice

Hi. How's going?
We play pathfinder RPG in Japan. This is very difficult game, isn't it?

By the way, we started to play this game with 5 members (including me, which means that players are 4).

Once a day, my clelic player insisted that I should give her(that character) Bull's strength wonds (50 charges) immediately. I think that this may crush our game balance, I think.

Addition to this problem, my wiz 5 character asked me to learn "Animate Dead, lesser" (which is included in UM book). I think that learning this spell is TOO strong. Based on this information, I would like to reject its idea.

Moreover, my paradin character always asks me to give some **** +2 sword and so on.

Is it common to pass such a magic item to 6lv characters?

Thank you for reading.

It's not common to pass out items on request, no.

Are your players getting enough gold to afford these items themselves?

Liberty's Edge

In terms of items:

No, you are not required to just hand them out. Though requests made should be considered when you do pick treasure, but that's considered, not just given.

You also might want to check out the reccomended wealth by level chart on p. 399 of the rulebook. According to it, 6th level characters should have about 16,000 GP worth of items...distributed in a specific way. Which makes both their requests a little over the top (though not completely crazy).

But if they don't have that much treasure, you should probably give them more (of whatever types you want) or make encounters a little easier to compensate.

In terms of Lesser Animate Dead:

Firstly, it's not that powerful. It gives him one skeletal or zombie minion, but that's all it does, and those aren't that powerful, as a rule.

Secondly, it has the [evil] descriptor, and as such is an evil act to cast, so you could easily forbid it to a good character on that basis.

Usually PCs should either find treasure while adventuring (usually by taking them from the dead/vanquished bodies of their evil opponents) or buy/craft these items with the money they took from aforementioned opponents.

The game does NOT expect that players simply ask the GM "may I have xyz".

BUT you may enter a magic shop in the city that they are in. If you have qualms about choosing the magic items that the shop carries you can roll them randomly.

Also heed deadmanwalkings advice and consult the "wealth by level" chart p 399 of the english core rulebook (don't know if it has been translated into japanese, if so the page number will likely differ). This chart is a guideline, not straightjacket, but try to stick to it.

About spells: usually the casting classes also find them or aquire them per rules when they level up. You should grant your players the spells as they wish BUT you should be familiar witht he effects of each and every spell.

Animate dead seems strong but has many drawbacks. Undead are evil and outlawed in most communities. That alone balances the usually small power up such a cohort offers.

One you should as Game Master decide on how much and what types of magic/ powers/ other things are in existance and avabile to your world/ party-players.

I do as a GM pay attention to what they ask about/ for and then maybe will give them it or something else that is like it that I feel is usesful oand approate to the game world that I am runing. I would guess that they are not getting what they feel is the level of magic they should have. In the core rule book(I think)there is a table of Wealth for higher level starting char. maybe think about using that as a guide to how much magic they "should" have at their levels.

You did not say what books you have yourself I am presuming that you only have the Core Rulebook for your use.

Maybe give the cleric a wand of Bulls Strength with a curse on it so that it makes him want to use it all the time even on the other side as his attack unless a will save is made at some DC. I would use a DC for it of (10+ his will save bonus) so that he has a 50/50 shot of using it to help out the other side.

Animate dead lesser can only bring one skeltion/zombie per casting. the total number of undead the wiz can command that he rases with this spell is his caster level times 4 HD worth as a hard total. This is two zombies or 4 skeltions per level total.

I hope that this helps

Do they have magic items at all? By level 6 I would hope that at least a few were floating around.

If you feel so inclined to include a wand in a treasure hoard, it is probably used, and will have less than 50 charges. You could roll randomly.

The animate dead spell isn't a big deal. Read the spell. There are limits and a GP cost.
