Weapon Training

Rules Questions

Looking over the fighters weapon training page 56 in the core rulebook, some of the groups include exotic weapons that the fighter is not proficient in. As an example repeating crossbows or the monks weapons that are not simple or martial weapons.

The question is should the fighter then have proficienty in these weapons for picking the group they are in for their weapon training or are they still considered non proficient with them?

As a game master I would allow the use as proficient, but worry a bit about cheappen the use of the exotic weapon profivienty.

Weapon Training does not grant proficiency. It grants only the benefits listed.

Grand Lodge RPG Superstar 2015 Top 32, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

The class feature does what it says it does, and doesn't do what it doesn't say it does.

Gaining +1 to attack and damage is not the same as gaining proficiency.

As others have stated: You do not gain proficiency with it, weapon training is something entirely different.

Remember that at level 17, you'll have a +4 bonus to attack (and damage) rolls with weapons in your highest Weapon Training group; the penalty for non-proficiency is -4, so at that point Weapon Training and non-proficiency sort of cancel each other out XD

Though it would behoove a Fighter to take EWP with the weapons he uses frequently.
