Advice

In a couple of months my game will be restarted. I'm having trouble what to pick as my new character. Please let me know which one of these to choose, and please if you pick that class, answer the thing in the ():

Druid-With a animal companion(which companion to pick)

Witch-With a familiar(which one to pick and which hexes/feats)

Summoner-With an eidolon(which parts to pick)

Or a mix of all three. Please tell me what to pick and the things to choose and anything else helpful about that class. Thank you.

Druid-With a animal companion(Most people like the cats for pounce... others can be good too)

Witch-With a familiar(most people like the evil eye/misfortune/slumber hexes, pick a familiar whose bonuses will help)

Summoner-With an eidolon(depends on what you want it to do. are you synthesist? either way, quad so that it can get pounce later on, more str, more arms (for more claws), flight, etc... really up to you)

Wow.

So you're wanting to play a pet class I see...

Anything else about the character that's important?

Liberty's Edge

Well, what role do you want you and your pet to serve in the party?

Do you want to be a front-line fighter, a healer, a battlefield controller, what?

And do you want your pet to slaughter your enemies, be able to scout for you, serve as a research assistant, what?

rangers and clerics are also pet classes.

clerics can choose the animal domian and boon compainion and
rangers can gain an animal companion and then boon companion.

of the 5 pet classes, not counting pally or other mount classes, i would choose:

a cleric if you want to be a boon to the party by buffing.

a summoner if you want to make a powerful character with little effort

a with if you dont like rolling to hit, they rock at casting save or die spells.

and a druid can be an awesome melee character, with an awesome melee pet.

all of these classes have guides to them, just serch for "the guide to guides"

Any ideas what the others might be looking at playing?

And as the others have asked, what do you want out of the PC?

Finally, what creation rules/ sources are you allowed?

The Exchange

since this has been left completely open i gues ill just post with what hs been given.
for a druid i would suggest a lion totem druid with a medium cat companion at level 7 it becomes large. you can take on your cat form alot and both you and companion will get pounce (one of the highest dpr boosters in teh game) you should focus on taking spells taht create difficult terrain and then take dragon style so you can charge through your difficult terrain. and make sure you get greater magic fang and an amulet of mighty fists with a useful non+1 enhancement like holy to help with fighting evil. use magic fang to get your enhancement bonuses. also consider the speed of your party you will be incredibly fast vs your coplayers so maybe take some stealth/scouting type skills to make yourself fill a role that others may not yet fill.

if i play a class with a familiar i always take improved familiar and grab a mephit or something with hands and a language so you can have them wand monkey for you. also look feat that allows you to hex 2 people at once very useful its free split spell metamagic but for curses only. your curses are spammable its a good idea to have one that can affect a creature multiple times. even a small debuff can be useful with an infinite use. also look up teh silvanshee pet my personal favorite for flavor its like a cheshire cat so cool.

finally we finish with the summoner which is just a ridiculous class.
for level one hwo would you like a pet with a strength of 22 that can pretty much grab and hold everything for you and have tons of hp for tanking. always take a quadruped base. you can change your evolutions every level but not your base form. if you want a pet class ignore synthesist. if you want instant power take a look at the archetype. past that for first level i like to pick quadraped and i take extra evolution as a feat and that gives you 4 points i take large sized to give +8 str and other bonuses. after that to start i always had my pet focus on grappling. take tentacle evolution a couple times then improved grab tentacle and for feats i pick improved grapple. by increasing his size strength and cmb for grapple then the pounce evolution so at the end of a charge your pet can use every single tentacle and its bite and if any of the tentacles hit you have a large modifier to keep the grapple.
if you have a player in yoru group that is a mounted type you can build your eidolon into the perfect mount with amazing trample and flight letting the mounted character ride it while you sit back and summon monsters to aid in battle.

I honestly hate the "pet" classes.
People get so hung up on this second creature they forget that that isn't what they're actually playing.
They are playing a CHARACTER not the companion.

personally i'd say go with the witch and treat the familiar the way wizards treat their spell books, take care of them, keep them with you at all times and ABOVE ALL ELSE keep them out of combat.
or better yet branch into other classes, go cleric or sorcerer if you like the powerful spell casting. I know your dm off line and i KNOW FOR A FACT you are much better in melee than most druids, if you like that try barbarian or fighter. your next character might not be as..."lucky?"... as this one.

these are suggestions and ONLY that. THE ONLY REASONS I AM SAYING THIS BECAUSE YOU ASKED

@ Rapthorn2ndform I understand what your saying. I do like to melee at times but the reason I won't do barbarian or fighter is becasue along with the attacks, I also love spellcasting. With my druid right now I brought one of my party members back from the dead with a reincarnate spell. I also made my animal companion a magical beast with a 14 intelligence. I think that's a fun part. Is there any other class I didn't put up that has cool spells and can melee?

P.s. I'm not choosing these for a "pet" class. I'm picking the druid for the spells and the companion comes with it, the witch's familiar is needed and the eidolon is awesome so I want that. The reason I also don't want a ranger or cleric is I don't want their "pet" classes, just for that because the druid's is the strongest companion when it comes to all animals.

Inquisitor can do melee very indeed, and have decent spellcasting. Debatably, so can Bards. Alchemists and Maguses indisputably can as well (though Maguses don't tend towards utility spells as much as the others listed).

You are aware of the Boon Companion feat, and its awesomeness for Rangers, Clerics, and other 'weakened animal comapnion' classes, right?

Thank you @ Deadmanwalking I didn't know about that feat. Also thank you to everyone else's input on this topic.

Which would be strongest at level 1 with stats and hit dies?
