What is a good build for a melee Oracle / Barbarian?

Advice

A fellow player in my game is playing an Oracle/Barbarian, and wants my help making an effective character. Right now we are level three and he is going to be a level one Oracle and a level two Barbarian. He wants to be a melee butt kicker. My first bit of advice was drop the Oracle level. But he wants to keep it. So with what he has now and going up to level 16 or so what would be a good build for this Oracle/Barbarian?

Off the top of my head, his best bet is to be invulnerable rager archetype for the barbarian. and let the oracle get the lame curse. Take the oracle level at level 9. Reason for this is because for treating levels for their ability's it's one level per oracle level, OR 2 level from other classes/ for each 1 oracle level. So, oracle level 5.. since 1-8= barbarian, and oracle 1 is taken at ninth level. 8/2=4; 4+1= 5. 5 level, lame curse oracle- immune to fatigue!

He can now rage cycle 8 levels sooner than he could as a pure barbarian. This is important because the barbarians once a rage powers are now once a round. or even once per attack, if you plan on doing sundering a lot or something. Good ex. of such powers: strength surge, smasher, spell sunder, sunder enchantment, etc.

You said that at level 16 is where you would most likely wrap things up, he's better off getting that ability way sooner, so he can at least have some fun with it/do some ca His speed will go down to 30ft, due to the curse, but get him boots of striding and springing WITH ALSO boots of speed for haste. 30+10+30=70ft while hasted. let him get the beast totem rage powers so he can pounce, by 11th level;(10th without oracle level). Pounce is a full attack on a charge. charge is double movement.. so 70 x 2= 140ft' no need to be longer on the charge lane. 140" is longer than a archer with the archer archetype, they can shoot max 135, without specialty arrows, 145' with. Your fine for speed.

Remember, the oracle level must be taken at 9th at the minimum, to get the immunity for fatigue. If you do it before, its wasted, and your only hurting your barbarian further, from taking away from his better saves, as well as forfeiting rage powers, and BAB.

Hope this helps.

Rage Prophet. its in the APG

Oracle 1 lame curse + Barbarian X is how I would build a Barbarian.

As mentioned above Rage Cycling is great. :)

Liberty's Edge

Either stick with one level of Oracle or go for 4 eventually. 2nd level spells might be worth it for the delayed Rage powers depending...

Grab Oracle of Lore or Nature Mystery-wise, and get Sidestep Secret or Nature's Whispers and dump Dex. That way you can put a decent amount in Cha and still be pretty hardcore.

As mentioned, make sure to take the Lame curse for all the reasons already mentioned.

Please tell me he took the Barb level first. :)

And I agree w/ the lame oracle rage cycling (I call it rage hopping) suggestion.

I do not suggest Rage Prophet. I also do not suggest dumping dex. The best Rage Power ever, Come and Get Me, requires dex for AoOs. Not to mention all the other things besides AC (the only thing Sidestep Secret helps) that use dex...
