Considering Trying PBP. Where to start?

Gamer Connection

Note that I am lazy, and searched for approximately 3 minutes before giving up.

not sure how you missed the Recruitment thread but thats the best place to start.

Read carefully what the GM is asking for and find a game that will suit you best.

Also read some of the ongoing games to get a feel for how things flow.

Good luck! Theres alot of good GM's and players on here and the competition for games is tough.

I guess I was looking for a general rundown of the conventions of play-by-post games... are there any? I'm a blank slate here. And also I am lazy.

not to be rude but if youre that lazy then you probably wont last long with a PBP. It takes time and dedication to make it happen.

Hm. Maybe there's some kind of lazy PBP I can join then...

troll on then

Heh. I feel welcome!

I like the idea of PBP, but I don't like the current format of them on the Paizo sites.

EL, I think i'm going to write out an Into To PBP games thread tonight. I'll try to link it here later.

here you go

Denali...What would you have changed?

Ooh, awesome... I'm glad I dug this thread out of my history or I would have missed this.

Thanks so much, Doomed Hero!

Abe: Here's a post I wrote a while back summarizing many of the facets of PbP:
http://paizo.com/forums/dmtz50lj?Play-by-Post-How-does-it-Work#6

DH: Nice article! I've added it to my "Advice" list in case I need to refer someone else to it in the future. Only thing that threw me was referring to (parenthesis) as "quotation marks" in a couple of spots, but we all have days like that. :)

Thank you all, this thread has taken a left turn down helpful street.

I wasn't aware of the competition level in PBP recruitment. It does a lot to explain Stiehl9s's dismissiveness when I originally posted in that forum.

But... what he didn't know... is that I am a GM. :)

One thing to note is I think I gm differently in pbp then at a tabletop.
I think I put much more effort into description when in pbp then I do when I play on a table top. If you go off on a tangent it can slow the game down for days. I am still new as a pbp gm though. One nice thing though is if your players go off on an unepected direction you can quickly prepare stuff for that area.

Evil Abe, if you're interested in trying it out, have a look for my pbp for rookies thread in the recruitment Forum and put in a character.

Thank you very much for the offer. School starts up again tomorrow, so I'm going to be distracted for a few days... If recruitment is still open then I might take up your offer, but please don't wait on my account (esp. not if anyone else is waiting for a slot!)

Grumble grumble. Sigh.
