Dwarven Thrower, viable?

Advice

Hola,

I've been enamored with the Hammer of Thunderbolts ever since I first started gaming in 1ed. I've never gotten around to building a dwarf that would be capable, and effective!

Anyone have a pathfinder equivalent?

Is there a reason it has to be a dwarf? The hammer of thunderbolts is a large weapon so you're either gonna take a -4time for wielding a weapon not sized for you or you're gonna have to get enlarge person permanently cast on you. The flip size to this is either playing a large creature and have a level adjustment or playing a half giant, no level adjustment but they can wield weapons sized for one category larger than them.

I've always played magical items size themselves to the creature holding it, but this artifact specifically states its large so that's why this problem comes up.

You are going to need a strong dex if you plan on throwing this thing which is another problem for large or enlarged creatures since they get a -2 automatically.

Another magic item you'll want is a cloak of resistance to help you with your save since the hammers stun effect will be affecting you too.

It seems like a great weapon but with high costs to use, you would almost have to build a character around it and your character would seem incomplete until you finally got it. The problem i've always had with those type builds is once you finally attain your goal the character really dulls out, like there's nothing else for it to do or strive for.

The build I would do for this character is straight fighter putting your two highest stats in dex first then str. Use a shield and specialize in warhammers, use them as your main weapon until you get the artifact.

Lantern Lodge

Why throw dwarves. Everyone knows halflings have a better range increment.
