It doesnt say so in their entry, but they are goblinoids, and it says all goblinoids have stealth as a class skill. do you have to have hit dice to get stuff like that? Example being outsiders getting martial weapon, and tieflings and asimars not getting it.

Creatures with no racial hit die, use their class to determine their skills. If you are playing a hobgoblin, I suggest taking a trait to get stealth as a class skill.

No, since all goblinoids have it as a racial ability, the hobgoblin would have it regardless of his class.

Really? That is actually awesome. I play a lot of gobliniod characters, and I never knew that. Is it in the Bestiary? Where can I find the RAW?

The rules are kind of messed up. Of the 3 goblinoids in the 3 bestiaries, only the bugbear actually has ranks in Stealth. Bugbears also have the Stalker ability, which gives them Perception and Stealth as class skills. If all goblinoids automatically get Stealth as a class skill, why have a special ability on a bugbear that gives them Stealth as a class skill?

You too? Never woulda guessed. Think it's appropriate I post this.

I will be damned. I now love gobliniods even more!

Yeah I found that out upgrading a hobglin for a hobgoblin army type deal I'm doing for my campaign this week.

I wonder if you can get get class skills from a racial subtype without having racial HD since a racial type does not grant theme unless you have racial HD.

so does that mean tieflings and assimar's get martial weapon b/c of their outsider (native) subtype?

Nope. Tiefling and Aasimars are outsiders but the martial weapons are from their racial HD.

Creatures with zero Hit Dice... like tieflings... NEVER gain their racial skills or weapon proficiencies. Their class skills and weapon proficiencies are ALWAYS determined by their class unless it specifically says otherwise in their specific racial traits (such as how tengus gain access to all swords). The generic creature type class skills and proficiencies with weapon and armor never apply if the creature has no racial Hit Dice.

Hit Dice has EVERYTHING to do with class skills, in other words.

Humans have d8 Racial Hit Dice, but they don't gain the humanoid skills automatically as class skills. Tieflings thus don't gain the outsider class skills automatically either.

As soon as a monster gains a racial Hit Die... he gains his type's class skills and weapon/armor proficiencies and all that. Regardless of what class he ends up being. Which is why allowing PCs of monsters with racial Hit Dice (like gnolls or lizardfolk) is tricky, and recommended only for advanced GMs and players.

This is also verified in another thread by SKR. If I find it I will psot it. Well with that bolded section I guess subtypes are limited also.

Link to a similar statement that was FAQ and got a "no reply required" from the rules guys which normally means the poster was correct.

Quote:
Goblinoid Subtype: Goblinoids are stealthy humanoids who live by hunting and raiding and who all speak Goblin. Goblinoids treat Stealth as a class skill.

Class skills gained due to type have different language used ("the following skills are class skills") while the goblinoid subtype uses the same language as traits ("treat x as a class skill").
