D&D 3.5's Fiendish Codex II ... I think they're the ones with armor nailed into their flesh, IIRC?

Confirmed, Also known as Tyrants of the Nine Hells. These guys are super awesome, especially if you start mixing Clerics in with them... Channel positive energy in a radius, each affected one is healed... they share hitpoints... Crazy possibilities.
