Monks, KI Pools and KI strikes

Rules Questions

I think there is a question about whether a Monk can use the Drunken Master Ki Pool with the his other Ki pool abilities and as such I want to leave it out of the question and leave it in the realm of GM "House Rules" :)

The main question I have is: How long does it last?

Under Drunken Master and Drunken KI

"...These drunken ki points last for 1 hoiur or until spent, whichever is shorter..."

At first I was of the belief that the Drunken Monk took a drink and had a Ki point that lasted for one hour until he used it. In this case we used it for a Ki strike. And then it was gone.

My GM piped up and told me 'NO NO NO' that Ki point would last 1 hour and I would have 1 hour (in game) of Ki Strikes. I went with it because he was the rules lawyer and wouldn't let up and I didn't know any better.

So, how long do the Ki points last for the Drunken Monk (assuming I am using to attack)

The second part is the regular Ki points. Most of them say 1 round or the like. But let's say I have 6 ki points and I want to do Ki strikes against some monster that requires magic weapons. (for the monk that is the Ki Strike for simplicity) Is that one ki point per round or do they last longer?

Thanks

They funtion normally basicly its like getting a Ki point that hangs around for a hour or until you use it.

As to the second part from what i can tell Ki strike functions as long as you have a Ki point you don't spend them to over come DR you do it as long as you have them in your pool.

Other uses last as long as they say. So looking at the above example of the drunken monk if you are out of Ki and drink for a point you can Ki strike for 1 hour or until you use it.

These are an expendable resource. So they last only until you spend them.

Unless you have 0 ki points left, you can make ki strikes all day long. If you have 0, then take a drink, you will have 1 ki point and can make ki strikes for 1 hour or until you spend that point.

There seems to be a major misunderstanding: ki strikes do not use up ki points. All your unarmed strikes are automatically ki strikes so long as you have at least one ki point in your pool, but they do not use the points up.

This may also be the source of disagreement with your GM. The drunken ki points do indeed last for 1 hour, meaning that all your strikes for that hour would have been ki strikes (so long as you didn't use that point up).

Generally the effect of a spent ki point lasts one round
- extra attack
- bonus AC
- extra 20' speed

Ki Strike, where the monk's unarmed strike counts as a magical weapon for purposes of damage reduction only requires that a ki point be available in the ki pool. It does not expend an actual point it just "empowers" any strikes.

Thank you for the "Enlightenment" :D

I will pass the information on.
