Elemental Body and Spellcasting

Rules Questions

I'm playing a wizard and I'm about to get 4th level spells. I found another thread but there wasn't much information. Can I cast spells while in elemental form? Eschew materials takes care of that. Verbal doesn't seem to be an issue. But somatic seems uncertain. Fire, Earth and Water all mention humanoid forms. Air says different elementals can use different forms, including a bird form as an example, but doesn't explicitly mention humanoid. But just googling it I've seem opinions for and against being able to cast spells in Elemental Body. What does everyone else think?

I would generally default to "no" unless there was some strong reason to believe otherwise.

Elementals are shapeless and amorphous, so they probably can't do somatic gestures precisely enough for magic. (I agree that they've got voices, so verbal wouldn't be a problem.)

One neat compromise would be to allow elementals to cast spells, but _only_ spells with their elemental descriptor.

Scarab Sages

By RAW, if you can assume a humanoid form you can use somatic components.

By RAW, an elemental can vary its appearance, with humanoid explicitly named as possible.

I'd default to yes unless there was a giod reason otherwise, it doesn't seem overpowered and i also read that elementals can alter their shapes so can have hands if they chose to.

Its up to you and your gm really as there isn't really a RAW for or against.

I would go with yes here too. Elementals have te ability to speak and have hands.

Ok......if yes, can characters in elemental form use weapons? Assuming they picked them up after they changed form?

I dont see why not, Elementals have physical forms and can manipulate objects.

Although a fire elemental may end up breaking some objects...

Plus, please remember the necessity of supplying spell components for most spells... unless you chose Eschew Materials somewhere in your carreer.
