Item: `Aegis of Recovery` on an `Amulet of Natural Armor`

Rules Questions

1 person marked this as FAQ candidate.

If you create an Amulet of Natural Armor +1 with an Aegis of Recovery (150% price) does it destroy the entire necklace when you go to 0 Hit points because the description says, "...crumbles, becoming useless from then on."

Interaction between unusual effects on custom items is purely in the GM's hands, so ask your GM.

If you are the GM, you decide.

Personally, I'd have the aegis be represented by a gem or some metalwork embedded in the amulet that, upon 'destruction', crumbles away, leaving the normal Amulet of Natural Armor +1 behind. The character already payed a premium for the aegis effect, no need to add insult to injury.

GM said the entire items is destroyed for now.

Aegis of Recovery:
Aura faint abjuration and conjuration; CL 3rd
Slot neck; Price 1,500 gp; Weight

DESCRIPTION

An aegis of recovery grants its wearer a +2 resistance bonus on all saving throws made to recover from an effect, such as poison or lingering damage from an attack. This bonus does not help against preliminary saving throws against such effects. Should the wearer ever drop below 0 hit points, the aegis cures 2d8+3 points of damage to the wearer and then crumbles, becoming useless from then on.

CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS

Craft Wondrous Item, barkskin, cure moderate wounds; Cost 750 gp.

I asked James Jacobs to see if his view is different...hopefully it'll get FAQ'd.

Well James said that adding an Aegis to an existing necklace destroys the entire necklass.

Good answer. Better to ask the GM about interactions such as this BEFORE before making such an item. James and your DM made the right call.
