Is this possible?

Rules Questions

I'll keep this short, is it possible for a lv 1 alchemist to do 9 splash damage (per square) with a throwing weapon (bombs/alchemist fire/acid)? And if so how?

Half-orc mindchemist can start with an intelligence of 20 plus 4 from cognatogen and 1/2 from favored class you get pretty close at 8.5 of course that 1/2 point won't affect until next level.

I only ask because there's a guy in the last game I played he's a lv 1 half elf alchemist with the point blank shot feat and in one round he did 9 splash damage, which sounds a bit high for a lv 1. I'm not sure what his stats are, but I think he has put everything into int and dex. If he has a 20 int then everything's fine. Thanks for the reply.

Human Mindchemist

18 Int base, +2 Human.
Cognatogen: +4 Int

1 (minimum bomb die) +7 (Int) +1 (Point-Blank Shot) = 9

If you can't swing 18 int at level 1, you could use your other feat for Vital Strike, for the same splash damage.

Vital Strike has a bab requirement of 6 and I thought that it was ruled that it couldn't be used on bombs. If I'm wrong on that one please let me know. Would be an fantastic method for conserving bombs on a mindchemist.

I didn't think that pointblank shot applied on the splash, but I could be mistaken.

Correct on the BAB, good catch.

It can be used on bombs, but it only affects the base damage (1d6) not any of the bonus damage added each odd level.

Point-Blank adds damage to the bomb, which increases the minimum damage dealt, which is what the splash damage is based from.

It can be used on the base 1d6 of bombs, additional 1d6 from levels are considered bonus and don't multiply

Ok so 9 splash damage is possible at lv 1, it just seemed rather high at lv 1.

Ehh. Oh well. Would be broken anyway if it did work effectively.

I could of sworn that I heard somewhere that Point-blank shot was RAI damage based off of impact and therefore wouldn't affect splash damage. Either way works.

One more question, is there some ability, feat or spell that would increase damage done to a target if they are flatfooted?

Sneak attack, in most cases.

True, is there anything else that would do extra damage if target is flatfooted?

There are a number of different classes, prestige classes, and archetypes that have the ability to do extra damage to flatfooted opponents. In each case, this ability is called 'sneak attack'.

Other than that, I suppose any attack that hits because the target is flatfooted that wouldn't if ze wasn't, could by some definitions be considered 'extra damage'.

Deadly Stroke

With a well-placed strike, you can bring a swift and painful end to most foes.

Prerequisites: Dazzling Display, Greater Weapon Focus, Shatter Defenses, Weapon Focus, proficiency with the selected weapon, base attack bonus +11.

Benefit: As a standard action, make a single attack with the weapon for which you have Greater Weapon Focus against a stunned or flat-footed opponent. If you hit, you deal double the normal damage and the target takes 1 point of Constitution bleed (see Conditions). The additional damage and bleed is not multiplied on a critical hit.

Wayfinders

20 Intelligence Half-Orc Favored Class Alchemist

16 Dexterity

Adopted (Human: Bonus Feat), Deft Dodger

Deadly Aim
Weapon Focus (Bomb)

1d6 + 7 (8 next level) with a 3 to attack. Splash damage 8, next level 9.

Hope this helped.
