LightSchool evocation [light]; Level bard 0, cleric 0, druid 0, sorcerer/wizard 0
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, M/DF (a firefly)
Range touch
Target object touched
Duration 10 min./level
Saving Throw none; Spell Resistance noThis spell causes a touched object to glow like a torch, shedding normal light in a 20-foot radius, and increasing the light level for an additional 20 feet by one step, up to normal light (darkness becomes dim light, and dim light becomes normal light). In an area of normal or bright light, this spell has no effect. The effect is immobile, but it can be cast on a movable object.
You can only have one light spell active at any one time. If you cast this spell while another casting is still in effect, the previous casting is dispelled. If you make this spell permanent (through permanency or a similar effect), it does not count against this limit. Light can be used to counter or dispel any darkness spell of equal or lower spell level.
Ok, so... how much does it cost to make a light spell permanent, since it's not listed in the permanency spell list of spells. But the spell itself says you can use permanency.
So confused...

how much does it cost to make a light spell permanent, since it's not listed in the permanency spell list of spells.
I would probably say the same as Dancing Lights, 2,500 gp.
Though if you find someone to cast Continual Flame then it's only 50 gp plus casting costs, if applicable (200gp total) so Permanency might not be so great. (Maybe it just costs more for a level 9 wizard to make it worth his time)

I am surprised that light is not on permanency list while dancing lights and ghost sound are - it must be an omission. Extrapolating from other effects it would require CL 9th and 2,500 gp in components.
3.0/3.5 permanency hadn't light either. Note that almost always continual flame is much cheaper option.
EDIT: Ninja'd by Grick by 30 seconds... IN NORMAL LIGHT!

2500gp, but why would you want to when you can get a continual flame scroll for 200gp?
Or buy an Everburning torch for 110 gp, or an Ioun Torch for 75gp.

mdt |

Ok, I can go with 2500gp, I just wish it was on the list, since the spell itself references permanency.
As to why Light over Continual Flame, because Light makes it glow, and continual flame makes it burn with a flame.
I'm thinking I'll just call it 50gp to cast a permanent light spell on an object, since it's exactly the same effect as continual flame.

Continual flame doesn't make it 'burn' really.
A flame, equivalent in brightness to a torch, springs forth from an object that you touch. The effect looks like a regular flame, but it creates no heat and doesn't use oxygen. A continual flame can be covered and hidden but not smothered or quenched.

When one makes a magic weapon, they have the option to make it shed light as the afore mentioned Light spell.
It costs nothing to make Light permanent in this fashion and can be done at level 3 (unlike the minimum caster level of 9 required for Permancying cantrips)
Charging 2500gp does seem a bit steep in this context.

A command-word activated, unlimited use Light item costs 900gp. A continuous item only 1500gp.
If the continuous item is dispelled, its only negated for 1d4 rounds before working again. A permanent light spell gets dispelled, its gone. You've wasted your money.
Whatever the cost should be, a permanent light spell should cost less then a continuous light item. Its not as useful.
It's still a flame. I'm going for appearance. One of my players wants a glowbar. A flaming crowbar isn't the same.
Then just re-fluff the spell. Make it so that the appearance of flames is optional. You just want a glowing item. That effect is apparently so cheap magic weapons can get it for free.
