I am having some issues with spell componets:
My party sucessfully completed a dungon and there were several 1000gp diamonds in the loot. (I thought GREAT! spell components here I come...)
However seeing that diamonds are a very difficult item to destroy I came to a stopping point: How to turn a diamond, much less several, into dust. One can not just jump up and turn it into dust nor can I take it to a mill and put the diamond under the wheel and expect results.
I am very hesitant to use "disintigrate" on a diamond for fear of losing a very expensive item. However the temptation is there seeing that the only thing left of the itme that has been disintigraged is in fact; dust.

Are we talking PFS?... If so, you don't keep those diamonds after the scenario is over..
If you are asking how to do it during the scenario to be used during the scenario, I would allow the player as a GM to higher someone in a Large enough City if you are near one to make it Diamond Dust.

Jeweller's tools should do it. Diamonds are super-hard, but not super-tough. They break if struck at the right point.
As Dragnmoon mentioned, if you destroy a diamond that you find and use it as a spell component within the scenario, it all works and you still get its value as treasure. If you want diamond dust for the next scenario, you have to buy it.

Since gems are sold at full price instead of half, you can simply sell the gems and use the money to buy the same value's worth of diamond dust. This transaction is already assumed in the wealth calculations for Pathfinder Society scenarios, though like Dragnmoon, I'm not sure you're talking about a general game or a Pathfinder Society-specific scenario.

Nope this is not a specific senario, this is a general game. However I never thought about using a jewelers tools. I always thought that jewelers tools were used for setting stones into pieces, not for breaking down gems.
Excellent... Thanks for the input everyone!

Technically, I suppose you'd use gemcutter's tools, but it's not listed as a separate craft.
Apologies - I had the impression you were talking about PFS. Outside of organised play, you get to keep your treasure, or cross it off if you consume it in a spell, in the natural way.

Why do you not get to keep the 1,000 GP worth of gems if you don't use them in the scenario, assuming an ongoing campaign where your playing the same character?
It is because the organized play of Pathfinder Society handles treasure differently. I am not totally familiar but I think whatever you find in the adventure you can buy from a pool of treasure at the end of the society session. For example: The group finds a +1 sword. You can use it in the scenario but if you want to use it in future PFS scenarios you have to buy it from the treasure pool at the end of the session. A neat thing they do is that everybody can buy the same piece of treasure even if only one was found.
In regular game you play with friends you handle treasure however you like.
