Domain for the Warrior

Advice

Grand Lodge

I hope to make a very melee heavy inquisitor and am looking for advice for a good domain, subdomain or inquisition. All advice is welcome.

Well, I have no idea what flavor you are looking for, so I will just throw those out that will help in melee.

Animal Domain - Feather Subdomain (take boon companion feat)
Destruction Domain - Power but at a cost
Nobility
Travel - hard to beat +10 move
Archon Sub-domain
Demon Sub-domain
Ferocity Sub-domain
Rage Sub-domain - access to rage powers as a result... very good

As a side note, we will be only playing to 6th level, so abilities that come at later level are rather useless to me.

Madness Domain, it's worth taking because most of the Golarion gods who offer it have pretty good weapons, and it's 1st level granted ability is pretty fun to throw down on the bad guy du jour:

Vision of Madness (Sp): You can give a creature a vision of madness as a melee touch attack. Choose one of the following: attack rolls, saving throws, or skill checks. The target receives a bonus to the chosen rolls equal to 1/2 your cleric level (minimum +1) and a penalty to the other two types of rolls equal to 1/2 your cleric level (minimum –1). This effect fades after 3 rounds. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Wisdom modifier.

Now since that's technically a buff the target gets no save, so give the boss a bonus to skill checks and watch him start missing and getting nailed by spells.

My Inquisitor has this domain and it's been proven clutch in a few fights

Lv 6? Thats going to be tough, as most domains give their 2nd power at lv 8.

That said, if you limited to lv 6, you might want to consider:
Growth subdomain (Plant) - You can enlarge yourself as a swift action Wis mod + 3 per day. This ups your melee weapon damage dice and extends your reach.
You also get enlarge person and more importantly barkskin, which can help you be more survivable.

Liberation Domain - If you are facing an adventure riddled with grabs, webs and other movement hindering problems, liberation domain can give you instant Freedom of movement. Its strictly only for an adventure where movement problems are common.

Ferocity subdomain (Strength) - its lv 1 power can up the damage a LITTLE bit. Its the spells you get, enlarge person and bull strength that can help you out.

Archon subdomain (good) - But only cos it give divine favor as a spell. The Good domain is usually a buffer friendly domain.

Demon Subdomain (Chaos, Evil) - Great lv 1 self-buff. Its almost like having rage. Limitation is that most Deities don't have the Demon sub-domain. There is a lot of Demon lords and other powers that have it tho.

There are others, but off the bat this is what I remember.
Do note that these are for a lv 6 MAX character. If you are going up to a higher level, some other domains like Glory's Heroism subdomain becomes a much better choice.

How effective is the protection domain or defense subdomain? I will be playing a lizardfolk, and with a god that grants me unarmed strike I can attack with it and both claws.

Lantern Lodge

I would discourage taking the Protection Domain for a Melee character, as its mostly a buff domain.

HOWEVER! If you take the Defense Subdomain, then it becomes a much better option for a Melee Character. You will be very defensive, but if that fits your play style then its good!

Just REMEMBER, that the Deflection Aura, takes a Standard Action to bring up. Once its up, it stays up and burns away its uses until you drop it as a free action. From the Rules, "Unless otherwise noted, activating a domain power is a standard action."

Do note that having great defenses its well... great! But don't just focus on defense, having the ability to "get out" of trouble via teleporating, Freedom of Movement, great Saves...etc is equally important.

As for how a Deity with Unarmed Strike as a Favorited weapon works... I'm not sure about that. Better ask it in the Rules forums.

Grand Lodge

It has been answered by developers, so unarmed strike is cool. Also, you do not need to be evil to have an evil god, so every domain is pretty much open. I was thinking of taking a level of unarmed fighter to gain dragon style, so as to combine it with feral combat training. Also, I noticed that some domains give you something else along with the level one ability, that sound good too.
