So I am looking to start up a new PC and I would like to fill a couple holes in the group if possible....
The group is in need of a trapfinder/disabler and low on arcane casting....I would like to combine the 2 although Arcane Trickster PRC isn't all that attractive to me.
Any thoughts?
Rules---core and APG only, stats will be rolled (not too worried about them anyway).
I am just looking for class combos and feats, not really gear or any of that. I also am not looking for the most Uber-great means of doing this, just hoping to be decently effective and fun to play.
Thanks all.

Few things: anyone can find traps now. Only a few can disable magical traps. Also, you don't have a barbarian? :)
That said, Sandman Bard and Detective Bard.
If your GM will make a special exception, you can also try the Seeker archetype for sorcerer, from the Pathfinder Society Field Guide. Or the Archaeologist bard from ultimate combat (it's weaker than the normal bard, but still awesome).
...there really should be a trait to let people disable magic traps. Trapfinding ability still gives the bonuses to spot and disable.

Here are the ways to get trapfinding
1) 1st level rogue (a bunch of archetypes give that up)
2) 3rd level urban ranger
3) 1st level trapper ranger
4) 1st level seeker oracle*
5) 1st level seeker sorcerer*
6) 1st level crypt breaker alchemist
7) 2nd level detective bard*
8) The 2nd level bard/alchemist/wizard spell Aram Zey's focus (too bad the duration is only 1 minute per level)
9) 2nd level archevist bard*
10) 6th level archeologist bard*
11) 1st level sandman bard*
*those 6 get trapfinding in everything but the name
I don't know which aren't in the core or APG but i am quite sure that these are all the ways to get trapfinding.
Keep in mind that in PF anyone can find any trap but you need trapfinding to disable a magical one.

Only rogues can use the skill "disable device" to disable magical traps true, but many casters have access to the spell "dispel magic" which can "disable" magical traps. There are certain drawbacks to dispell magic over disable device of course.
1) a rogue can use disable device at 1st level, casters get dispell magic later, usually at lv 5-6.
2) Casters can use dispell magic a limited number of times per day, a rogue can disable device at will. Scrolls and wands can give casters additional uses of dispell magic, but they cost money, even if the casters makes them themselves (and that would take feats).
Overall I would say rogues are better at handleing magic traps, but pure casters can also at high enough levels. Just my 2 cents.

Rogues may be better at handling magic traps than pure casters but you know what is A LOT better at handling magic traps and gets to do many more things? Someone with more skill points than a fighter or cleric and one level of trapper ranger or even better a wand of Aram Zey's Focus.

This. Replacing Trapfinding with other abilities is diffcult, but the real reason to need an arcane caster is to have someone who understands and can react to arcane casting. Thus, the bard.

I was looking at Archivist bard. They lose Inspire Courage (boo) in favour of Naturalist (ID a monster, then give your party +1 dodge AC/to hit/saves vs those creatures' stuff) but at second level they can find and remove magical traps.
(But if you'll handle trapfinding I'll let you -- I don't really have the stats for it.)

Seeker archetype from Pathfinder Field Guide. Makes a Sorc have trapfinding.

Seriously, the easiest way to do this is a one-level dip of generic Rogue. Then switch to your casting class and stick with that. Keep Perception and Disable Device topped up, and you should be just fine.
Since you're limited to just Core/APG, I'm inclined to think Wizard makes the most sense -- you can pump your INT, and that will give you plenty of skill points to keep your rogue-ish skills topped up, as well as bonus spells and higher save DCs.
With a Rogue 1/Wiz X, you'd want to focus your feat selection almost completely on casting-related stuff, but Skill Focus (Perception) wouldn't be a bad idea. You can't disarm traps that you can't find, after all; and Perception is extremely useful in other situations too.
If you select a familiar that has hands, like a monkey, they could probably do Aid Another on Disable Device checks, giving you a handy +2 bonus on those.

Look no Further!!!
I kid I kid. I understand your only using core. As listed before a dip into rogue or one of the archtypes listed below.
Are you a player or the DM? If your the DM you could always look at my artificer update as he gets trapfinding and is wonderful arcane support.

I know it's core and apg only, and people are correct that you should go with one of the bards that gets trapfinding or just go Rogue 1/Caster x.
However....I just can't let a thread like this pass without mentioning how you're essentially looking for a Beguiler from PHBII 3.5
It's not just exactly what you're looking for, it's what you're looking for AND more. It's also good without being ridiculous or broken. It easily converts to Pathfinder (just up the hd to d8 and combine some of the skills on its skill list that have been combined for PF). Might be worth a shot to see if your DM will allow it. If not, you should check it out and feel frustrated that you can't play it.

A Dwarf Bard (Archivist) makes a great trapfinder/disabler: just take the Vagabond Child regional trait (pick Disable Device to get a +1 on checks and have it as a class skill), put ranks in both Disable Device and Perception every level, and don't switch out Stonecunning (+2 on Perception checks to notice "unusual stonework, such as traps... receive a check to notice such features whenever they pass within 10 feet of them, whether or not they are actively looking;" pretty much gives you the Trap Spotter rogue talent) for an alternate racial trait (Lorekeeper would probably fit better than Greed, though). As long as you have an above average (12-14) Dex and Wis, the Skill Ranks quickly become more important than ability scores.
As a role-playing bonus, you can add pedantic commentary about the craftsmanship of the traps when you find/attempt to disable them ("Oh, this is a nice piece of work. See how the double spring on the trigger mechanism resets it after activation? It also looks like... yes, it would also reset if you tried the obvious method of disabling it. Nasty. Give me a moment...").

Just play a Sandman. They a spell thief and beguiler mixed into one.
Yuck! Shadowdancer is not for me. I am thinking of doing a level of rogue (or 2 eventually) then summoner.
Actually looking at the Dwarf Achivist Bard is making me like it....I think I will do that. A lorekeeper dwarf archivist bard.....interesting....| NeonParrot |
Why not take the spells open/close and mage hand, just use them on anything suspicous and if something goes "BOOM" you'll know it was trapped.
heh heh heh
I like the way you think . . .I was just reading over CR for traps. Did you know that you link traps? And they can listen and see too? This is very cool stuff, using ALARM, CLAIRAUDIENCE/VOYANCE.
I like the idea of monkeys . . .just a familiar and then his troop as expendibles. You could even make cheap homonunculi too, and not worry about alignment gaffs. Make them look like WINGED FLYING MONKEYS.
Come to me my pretties!
