I think it would sort of be cool to not be in a guild where everyone does in-character roleplaying.
Anyone down? I like killing monsters and taking their things, so, I mean, we probably have that in common.
I don't really know what guilds are supposed to do in PFO, yet, but when they tell us, we're going to do that.

Well, so far I had the impression that you would not start PFO at all ;)
I too think that MMOs are ill suited for RPing so I kind of admire the people that manage to do this consistently despite the severe limitations.
For RPing nothing beats P&P - except maybe LARPing, but that is certainly not my kind of style.

I cannot help but @.o at this sentiment. Completely mind-boggling. The best experiences I've ever had on MMOs have been in joining RP guilds and developing character while conquering content. If that's not your cup of tea so be it, enjoy the gameplay, and I hope we can make it as entertaining and engaging as possible.
That being said, in an MMORPG of an Table Top RPG, shouldn't there be some... RP... in the G? Support for the hobby shouldn't detract from the gameplay. A rich palette of emotes, postures, movement-modes, clothing options/design, furniture, player content-control, government control, territory dispute, ecology, economy, and social command/control options are powerful tools for RP (as are multi-player/multi-side duels) that in no way impinge on the gameplay aspect, and will, in fact, expand and enrich it.
What specifically NON-RP aspects are you looking for?

Nah, I'm happy to just enjoy the game.

That sounds great, but I'd rather just play the game.

I would like to play PFO without having to act in-character. I thought that much was clear. Have you played MMORPGs? Most MMORPG players don't act in-character.

I like to entwine both aspects together. It's surprisingly easy to maintain an IC perspective given an immersive game, and can often be quite amusing (I'm looking at you hilariously roleplayed dwarfs).
Given most roleplay guilds are specifically serious, I tend to gravitate towards nonRP guilds on a main character. Have to see what Goblinworks throw at us.

Heh, I know. Best of luck with that mate. Just chiming in my thoughts on RP in MMO's.
Hoping the game is built on a single shard system like EVE, in which case I'll happily join up with and assist your members in whatever you do. I have plenty of non-RPing friends in the various games I play.
I get the feeling that it probably will be a single shard system. The "4,500-per-month" schedule seems to imply that they expect a single world to grow over time. Perhaps we'll eventually see more servers, but I would be surprised if we see more than one at launch, given what we now know.

If I get this game, I'd want to be in a non-RP guild. Although I may not have the time to dedicate to it as I would like. However, I could always make time if I like it.
You've got 1-2 years friend, minimum. Devise & launch a master plan.

To date in Alpha, virtually all of my interactions have been out-of-character. I'm sure part of that is because we're wrestling so much with the game systems themselves. Most of our conversations revolve around "How do I make this system work? Is that other system still broken, or did they fix it yet?". The rest take the form of "Three yellow mobs, one red, one white. Everyone focus fire on the red, and we just might live."
Once the UI issues begin to smooth out, I think we'll have more time for RP-ing. To me, it's a fun thing to indulge in once in a while, but when I'm fighting for my life, there's no way I'm going to take the time to add "prithee" and "thou" to my tactical chat.

Modest. Maybe 5 ppl RP'ing for about an hour. But I'd say I got a quick taste of how easy it is to RP around the things you actually do in this game as opposed to going to a tavern and explaining why you killed the same "boss" for the 100th time.
