Wall of Stone question

Rules Questions

"It is possible, but difficult, to trap mobile opponents within or under a wall of stone, provided the wall is shaped so it can hold the creatures. Creatures can avoid entrapment with successful Reflex saves."

can you just try to trap someone UP TO THEIR HEAD in stone? like a stone straight jacket?

No. Despite being measured in 5' squares, Wall of Stone is a Shapeable spell, which must follow these rules:

Quote:
(S) Shapeable: If an area or effect entry ends with “(S),” you can shape the spell. A shaped effect or area can have no dimension smaller than 10 feet. Many effects or areas are given as cubes to make it easy to model irregular shapes. Three-dimensional volumes are most often needed to define aerial or underwater effects and areas.

The wall has to me a minimum of 10' tall. So whatever you want to trap up yo their heads must be more then 10' tall.

Ninja'd! Excellent job, Jeraa! :)

I forgot something - even if the spell could be only 5' high, you still can't trap a creature up to their neck.

Quote:
The wall cannot be conjured so that it occupies the same space as a creature or another object.

The wall has to go around the creatures space. Trapping a creature up to its neck implies the stone surrounds the creature, preventing it from moving. That is not possible.

You could of course follow it up with a casting of Stone Shape, and get any (rough) shape of wall you like.
