CMB and True Strike

Rules Questions

Does this work? If so, why or why not?

In the Core rule book page 198 says "CMB = Base attack bonus + Strength modifier + Special size modifier"

Ability or spell that would specifically say it added to CMB or effect one of those 3 items (BAB,Str,Size), would work but nothing else should. Right now our DM is running it as True strike works on Trip CMB check. But if this work then why doesn't the Magic bonus of a magical weapon work, weapon focus, or any spell that adds to your attack roll?

Do you use your weapon for the CM roll? If so, true strike helps.

He is correct, and it does.

"When you attempt to perform a combat maneuver, make an attack roll and add your CMB in place of your normal attack bonus. Add any bonuses you currently have on attack rolls due to spells, feats, and other effects. These bonuses must be applicable to the weapon or attack used to perform the maneuver."

True Strike grants a bonus on your next attack roll. If that attack roll is a CM check, then it applies.

Bless applies, flanking applies, high ground applies, enhancement bonus to your weapon applies if you're using the weapon for the CM. (A +5 longsword grants you +5 if you use the sword to trip. See the recent FAQ for details. )

You have to read a little further down the page, Slacker2010:

Add any bonuses you currently have on attack rolls due to spells, feats, and other effects. These bonuses must be applicable to the weapon or attack used to perform the maneuver. The DC of this maneuver is your target's Combat Maneuver Defense. Combat maneuvers are attack rolls, so you must roll for concealment and take any other penalties that would normally apply to an attack roll.

So not only does True Strike work, but also a bard's Inspire Courage, or the Bless spell, or the bonus for flanking, etc.

Note that things that are weapon-specific, such as a magic weapon's enhancement bonus or the Weapon Focus feat, only apply if you're actually using a weapon to deliver the maneuver. Normally, only disarms, trips and sunders use a weapon. If your weapon has the "trip" weapon quality, then you can also use it to deliver drag and reposition maneuvers. Otherwise, though, maneuvers don't use weapons and don't get weapon-specific bonuses.

EDIT: Partially ninja'd.

Additionally Feats that grant special CM's in addition to an attack with a weapon or shield, the bonuses from weapon/shield/equipment used for the initial attack apply to the bonus CM. EG: Shield Bash with Shield Slam and a Bashing shield. The bonus applied to the Bullrush attempt.

Yep to all these...that's how I Grapple/Pinned/Tied-Up/Coup de Grace'd a dragon. Thank you True Strike! (And lucky subsequent rolls).

"Your next single attack roll gains a +20 insight bonus."

"When you attempt to perform a combat maneuver, make an attack roll[.]"

The spell is personal not on your weapon. I don't see anything that requires the use of a weapon.

So, I expect to see some True Striking sorcerers out there Bull Rushing those enemies off of cliffs.
