I have an interesting idea for a character who works as a brewer/bartender and works magic into alcohol based potions. I haven't seen any rules on the effects of alcohol or how to do this.
Can you substitute Profession(brewer) as a skill requirement for Brew Potion?
Would this be similar to creating some kind of (minor) cursed item?
Would the alcohol have negative effects on Dexterity, Charisma and/or Wisdom?
Would there be negative (possibly randomized) conditions such as Confused, Dazed, Dazzled, Nauseated, Sickened, Staggered, etc.?
Would the negative effects offset the cost of brewing the potion?
Would there be Constitution, Fortitude, or Willpower checks to avoid the effects of the potion?
Having a character pass around these alcoholic magic potions, watching the chaotic battle, and then watching players weigh the pros and cons of drinking during the next battle would definately be interesting.

I would envision this as an alchemist archtype.......

Could have fun with a Drunken Master Monk archetype in the same party as this.. :)

Necroing this thread like crazy, BUT...
I did this back in 3.5 with a Craft-heavy Barbarian. My DM ruled that I could make a Craft (Food & Drink) check at a fairly-high CR (something like 25 or so, I believe) to craft my alcohol such that potions were a key ingredient, and so I could drink alcohol and a potion simultaneously...
Several years later, and the Drunken Brute archetype comes out in Pathfinder, and I immediately have fond memories of my Barbarian and like that his design is now codified.
I do wonder, though, how DMs would rule this in PF - would you need Craft Potion and use Alcohol as the base, thus increasing the CR to Brew Potion, or would you need to take an existing potion and either make a Profession (Brewer) check or Craft (Food & Drink) check to successfully use the Potion as an ingredient during fermentation - at which point a failure would not only mean that the fermentation had gone bad but the Potion would also be rendered inert?

I know this is an old post but came across it in some recent research. Brewing is the production of beer by steeping a starch source (commonly cereal grains) in water and fermenting the resulting sweet liquid with yeast.
Vinification, is the production of wine, starting with selection of the grapes or other produce and ending with bottling the finished wine. Although most wine is made from grapes, it may also be made from other fruits or plants. Mead is a wine that is made with honey being the primary ingredient after water.
Both these processes use Fermentation. BUT this would only be part of the process and truly not cover enough data to include the brewing of potions.
I could see craft (alchemy) as a substitute as technically Brewing, Vinification , Fermentation as well as Distilling are all alchemical processes which would be used in the creation of potions and give a much larger knowledge.
Truthfully I strongly dislike the Profession(xx) skill. Primarily as it overlaps often with the craft skill.

Hm. Thematically the Master Craftsman feat seems similar to what you want: requires 5 ranks in the skill involved, and unlocks the item creation feats for non-casters. As far as alcohol, I think 3.x had it as a Fort save against a DC of however strong it was to avoid ... um, whatever condition you think is best simulated with inebriation.
In another example, a certain modern-setting d20 RPG has a 'Drunk' condition: -2 to Dex- and Wis-based checks, plus a 5' stumble that doesn't cost anything, but is based on the splash weapon scatter roll.
Have fun!

Just like drugs, alcohol can be abused and have significant negative effects. In general, a character can consume a number of alcoholic beverages equal to 1 plus double his Constitution modifier before being sickened for 1 hour equal to the number of drinks above this maximum. Particularly exotic or strong forms of alcohol might be treated as normal drugs. Those who regularly abuse alcohol might eventually develop a moderate addiction.
