Medium Mount Question

Should the weight for a medium mounts saddle be the same as a large mounts? It should be half the weight but it shows up as the same. It can be a real problem with mount encumbrance. If this is an error can it be fixed?

I agree with this logic. My DM allows a small character saddle on a medium mount to be half that of a medium character's saddle on a large mount, I feel it should be in the rules.

As far as RAW, they weigh the same. I don't know if this is the right forum to propose changes in the rules, but I agree with such an idea.

A bit of thread necromancy, but as equipment and not weapons, I believe they should actually weigh 1/4 of the large-sized saddle. Any thoughts?

As a DM, I'd rule that the saddle weight is based on the mount's size, not the rider's size.

Therefore, the default saddle weight would be for Large mounts. A saddle for a riding dog or a pony would weigh half the listed weight.

Just to add another pot of Alchemist's Fire to the thread...

A Riding Dog weighs 50 lbs. a combat trained Pony weighs 900 lbs.

A Military Saddle weighs 30 lbs. this is more then half the weight of the Riding Dog, but only 1/30th the weight of the Pony.

There needs to be scaling with the saddles.
