Vanities Question

Can one of your Pathfinder Society characters be the senechal of another one of your Pathfinder Society characters?

No. Vanities aren't actual people. They are merely game mechanics with flavor. (See the porter vanity for an example of this invisible NPC vanity idea.)

Nothing to stop you providing some flavour background and naming your seneschal. No additional benefit can ever come of it though either in or out of scenario. Your senschal can only ever do senschal duties and no more. Nothing can ever transfer between you.

Logically it seems dubious that another pathfinder could be keeping your affairs in order, running your business, etc. while you are away if they are also doing pathfinder missions.

Last night in Decline of Glory my fellow players and I rolled up a gang of sczarni pirates. We plan on getting the ship so that my character can be a legitimate captain. I'll probably get the herald and make him a small orphan child that speaks in a 1890's poor London accent "Intr'aducin in all his fearsomeness, the ol' 'orror of Absalom 'imself, the great Cap'n Swagger!" Maybe get the porter and have him be a silent muscular fellow that I call Stretch or Flex, and mention him when making intimidate checks. "Ye best be tellin' me all I wish to know, or I'll have me matey Muscles take ye around back and give you a real thrashin!" Eventually, I get the Isolated Island and say that it's a Pirate Cove, where the rest of my crew stays when not adventuring under the colors of the Pathfinder Society.

Nothing I've mentioned can ever influence actual game events -- my intimidate checks are still based only off my skill, Stretch will never be able to actually do what my character claims he will. The ship and the island will only ever be referred to and never visited. But that's what vanities should be like imo.

Because they're never given actual hit points and other vital statistics, all of my vanities are only limited by my imagination. For all I know, by the time he's level 12, Captain Swagger will command a fleet of pirate vessels, crewed by the fiercest scum this side of the Worldwound!

At some point, the vanities start bleeding over into the "no reskinning" rules. For example, a GM would be within his rights to explain to WalterGM that his character has just what the vanity allows, that he is either lying through his teeth about his "pirate fleet" or else very much mistaken, and that the NPCs understood that.

(Because if the NPCS think he does have a pirate fleet, and make their decisions about him based on that, then he is deriving some additional benefits.)

A GM might also just play along.

He be lying through his teeth, as any good pirate would do. Also, mention of the fleet would only be to other players, not to NPCS. Personally, I shy away from actual reskinning. I dislike the idea of NPCs thinking that my character has a mental flaw (calling a riding dog a pig :P), or of thinking that my character is total liar. In Cap'n Swagger's case, he may...embellish the size of his fleet...or of his crewmates' capabilities, but never an outright lie.

The act of Swagger declaring his noncombatant "roughing up" an Intimidate target may get into a gray area, but as long as both the hypothetical GM at the time and my pirate understood that such "flavor dialogue" had no impact on the outcome of Intimidate checks, I wouldn't see a problem with it.

Hmmm, sounds like someone is compensating for other "shortcomings". ;)

I believe that it is simulated by the plus sign on the right side of the post you want to "like", below the reply button, that shows as "Add this post as a favorite"
