Pack your gear, grab your boots of the winterlands, and prepare your endure elements spell; it’s time to head North! To the lands where the Ulfen rule, and have ruled for ages! Visit the ancient mead halls, and hear the stories from the great warriors: of great battles with Irrisen’s blue trolls and icy fey; of the savage hunts for the linnorm; of the times of the raiders, plunders of the western coast; of the strange and eerie places where this world meets the First World.
Come! Sit by the Great Fire pull out your sketchbook, your drawing sticks and, draw the wonders of the north for us!
Goal
The goal for the fanzine is to create a collection of fan-created articles and supporting art set in Paizo’s Pathfinder Chronicles world of Golarion. The goal of this call for art submissions is to create a feature article in Wayfinder #6 that displays the artistic talents of Pathfinder fans .
Wayfinder #6 will be focusing on the one of the northernmost realms: the Lands of the Linnorm Kings! While art depicting some aspect of our theme is encouraged, we will also be accepting all art submissions that deal with the Pathfinder setting. So feel free to give us your best!
But first, we have a few rules...
Guidelines
- Keep in mind thy audience. Keep it PG-13. No cheesecake/beefcake/fan service.
- Thou shalt not infringe upon other Intellectual Properties. No illustrating Batman meets Valeros, or even a Drizzt-looking drow. Keep it in Golarion.
- Wayfinder seeks new, original black and white or color art to feature in its pages. Please refrain from submitting material that has already been published elsewhere.
Submission Instructions
- Conditions for Submissions. All artists must agree to have their works reproduced for this and other Wayfinder products, be it for translations into other languages (we will be responsible for the truthfulness of the translations), special publications, or use on a Wayfinder website or gallery website (such as DeviantArt). All of Wayfinder’s publications are NON-PROFIT, and authors and artists will be given proper credit where due.
- Send all submissions to: wayfinder.fanzine@gmail.com with the subject line containing “Wayfinder #6 Art Submission”.
- Art submissions can be in color or black/white.
- All art submissions should be .psd .jpg or .tiff files. 300 dpi. 8.5 x11 size max.. Note: Files that are sent in any other format will be rejected.
- Include your name and board name with your submission - example, “Liz ‘Lilith’ Courts”. Your entries will be compiled and selected by the editorial staff. You will be notified if your submission has been selected.
- DEADLINE: November 15, 2011, 11:59 Pacific. All entries will be handled on a first come, first serve basis.
Any questions can be asked here in this thread, or email your questions to: wayfinder.fanzine@gmail.com

I discussed the magazine with my old friend JesmondCat, who moved back to my town last weekend.
He seemed interested in the concept, and it would help him get his work out to the masses.
He does a good line in Celtic/Scandinavian knotwork; may be good for chapter headers, borders, illuminated letters and section breaks.

Hello, do you still request art to match the texts? I did art to illustrate "In Hell’s Embrace" Part 2 & 3 by Dane Pitchford in past issues, I would like to illustrate Part 4 if it's part ot this issue, if possible..
Yes, we are going to be using artists to illustrate the written articles as well. Hugo (butterfrog) is our art director/wrangler for those, and will putting out those art orders as soon as I send him the articles I am selecting. But, I'll let Hugo know that you'd like to illustrate that article.
THIS call for art is IN ADDITION to the article art. Our intent for art pieces received from this call is to fill 4-8 pages of the fanzine with a gallery of fan art. Since this is a PDF, we sort of have room to play with here for this kind of thing.
Plus, we are also interested in discovering new talent in the community. I mean, heck, we are doing it for the writers, why not do a little more for the artists out there? And newly discovered artists may very well get a bonus from the exposure (more commissions!).
So, there, that's our plan for this.

Here's an idea. There should be a fair bit of tinkering and rules kitbash ambition amongst the Wayfinder readership, right? How about giving a few of the open art pages over to creatures without rules, then starting a discussion on here and let the community decide what they are in game terms.
That might be something we could try in another issue, but alas, #6 really needs to be underway right now, and it isn't feasible for this issue.
I do like that idea, though. Perhaps something we can do during the time we are waiting for submissions to keep people aware that Wayfinder is open and waiting. Nice.
In the meantime, I am a little perplexed....the response has been very small. Is there no interest in submitting any art??
:(

For what it's worth, I've been pointing out this thread to some people I don't think are active here. Here's hoping at least one of them takes the bait.

I had a friend recommend that I give this a try, so I should have something to submit in a week or so. If anyone cares to have a look at my work, check it out at http://munkendronkey.deviantart.com/
Cheers,
Steve
And I will be INCREDIBLY PLEASED.
Wow, Steve. Great stuff! Can't wait to see what you submit!

I had a friend recommend that I give this a try,
And I... I am that friend.
Steve, meet Tim. Tim, Steve.
Other than probably his family, I am Steve's bigggest fan. I'm overjoyed to see that Steve has joined us here on the messageboards, and to hear that he's planning on doing a piece for the upcoming Wayfinder. There's more I guess I could say, but right now I'm just happy that two guys I am so impressed with have gotten together, and a game I love is going to be the better for it.

sadly I missed this - will there be something like this again soon?
I don't know, honestly. The response was pretty underwhelming, in terms of amount received. (What I did get was pretty great though!)
If we do this again, it will likely be for issue #8, for next fall/winter 2012. That's another PDF-only issue, and therefore we aren't held to a limit on page count.
That said....if you are an artist that would like to illustrate something for Wayfinder, we use lots of artists! Put your stuff up online somewhere (deviantart is one such place) and send us the link to it. If we like what we see, we may contact you to see if you want to illustrate an article for an issue.
See, if we don't know about you and your art, we can't use it. That, actually, was sort of the intent for this call for art...to find and promote talented artists/fans.

After a bit of thought and discussion, Wayfinder #7 (coming out in July) will also try to have another Call for Art. The catch is that the Gallery article of art will be exclusive to the PDF version. Space is limited for the printed PaizoCon version, so we'll just make sure that the downloaded PDF is "special".
At least, that's the plan....
