Variant Channeling & the interaction between Channel Smite and Grayflame enchantment

Rules Questions

I'm curious about what people think.

Do the effects of variant channeling work with channel smite? My first inclination is yes, which is nice.

For grayflame, I think it does not work.

I would like to bump this thread, I have the same question. Particularly with the variant for Ale/Wine and the harm effect of nauseated.

Would my enemy become nauseated upon failed will save and successful melee attack roll?

I see no reasons why it wouldn't work with both.

It's still positive/negative energy. That is what grayflamme is concerned with.

Feats and abilities that modify or present alternative uses for channeled energy (such as Command Undead and Turn Undead) work normally with these variant channeling abilities.

Channel Smite therefore works normally, so with the Ale/Wine variant if you spend a channel use and succeed on your attack, the target takes your normal channel damage (half that of a standard cleric) and is also nauseated for 1 round. A Will save halves the damages and negates the nausea.

I think based on this that greyflame would also work normally, since the weapon ability only requires positive or negative energy channeling, and variant channeling is still channeling that uses positive or negative energy. It doesn't even change the number of dice of channeling you get, just reduces the end amount of damage healed or dealt.
