Earthbreaker in Sandpoint

Rise of the Runelords

A player wants to purchase a masterwork earth breaker from the standpoint smithy.
I have the stats for the thing but that's it.
What are the chances Das would have one lying around?

Not likely, but Savah's armory might. If you feel generous, that is...

Worst case scenario, a quick trip down the coastline to Magnimar would likely get them whatever they want.

I like to look at it from a "world view" perspective -- Magnimar has roving gangs of Shoanti, and hence is almost certain to have them. Merchants travel between Sandpoint and Magnimar all the time, so there's a very good chance a merchant passing through Sandpoint had one.

But what's the chance Das (or anyone else) took interest? Maybe Das thought that Garridan Viskalai would be interested in hanging one in the White Deer, and was sadly mistaken, so he's stuck with one in his shop at the moment, and would be happy to unload it.

I like to let percentile dice determine such "what ifs" in my game. So this is something that's possible, but not exceedingly likely. I'd put the chance of them having one "off the shelf" at 30%. The chance of Das being able to special order one from Magnimar for arrival in 4-5 days? 100%, but they have to be on good terms with Das.

My PCs spent a lot of time over the first couple of weeks special ordering things from Magnimar, making it much more fun for them when they finally got there and could see what all the fuss was about...

Fluffykins has the right idea. When it comes to exotic weaponry, or magic items that Sandpoint itself simply can't afford, taking a trip or placing an order from the larger community next door is an excellent solution, perhaps one which one of the smiths could hint to the PCs if the PCs don't think of it themselves.

My belief is that Das Korvut is not a weaponsmith, he is a blacksmith. Savah's Armory is the most likely place to find this Earthbreaker. (Besides the aforementioned Magnimar, of course.)

In my version of Sandpoint, Das can do minor and adequate reforging of weapons and tools, but as they are a trade town, it is probably easier to get some shipped in.

The way I run my games, towns always have any mundane items available. A masterwork earthbreaker, being a martial non-magical weapon (not exotic), is a mundane item (even if it is mwk), and I wouldn't worry too much if Sandpoint has one available or not. If you are concerned about it, do as others have said -- make your PC travel to Magnimar, or do as I have done for rarer items (mithral, while not necessarily magical, is certainly not mundane) and make your PCs pay a premium and have it "shipped in" with the next trade caravan. Savah and/or Das Korvut should at the very least have some contacts in Magnimar to get rarer mundane items in Sandpoint, if they can't make or supply them themselves.

Items can't be reforged into MWK - items must be crafted as masterwork, per the CRB.

I'm not saying they would be. I meant reforging broken weapons. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

My initial point was, however, you would visit Savah before you would visit Das for such things. He's a blacksmith, not a weaponsmith. Savah, however, runs a shop specifically selling weapons and armor.

Possibly the Sandpoint Boutique as well, if you're looking for some Varisian flavor to your weapons.

I want to add that, in my campaign, Das has become my party's go to weapons supplier because when they first met Savah, they tried to use detect magic on some of the gear in her shop (newbies...). She didn't like it and hasn't let the PCs into her shop since. They also tend to avoid her for the same reason. Anything Das doesn't have on hand, he tells the PCs he can get on special order from Magnimar.

Interesting. Heh, that will certainly steer them elsewhere. Being a former adventurer, Savah can be pretty scary. ;)
