Marvel's Moon Night

Advice

Grand Lodge

One of my favorite comic character's was Moon Knight. I am thinking of creating him for another AP that my group will run. Possibly straight fighter with bonus feats used for unarmed combat? Maybe adding rogue? Any advice or new ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I tried to get into him with the Marvel Knights relaunch... but with Civil War going on and all... my interest dropped pretty hard.

Soooo I don't know MUCH about the character. But the first couple issues, kind gave me an Inquisitor feel. Some kind of holy warrior with a mission from his god.

COULD go Paladin... but he's nuts and there was face ripping action... soooo probably not.

From his 90's guest appearances I saw, I'd have guessed maybe ninja with the shurikens and what not... but what do I know ;)

the marvel wiki says enhanced str and endurance(con).

I'd say barbarian lvls of some sort...

Alchemist/Monk is how I made a clone of him. Alchemist = the gadgets!

Depends on which incarnation of Moon Knight you were looking for.

My favourite*, the semi-mystical 'Fist of Khonshu' aspect would definately be an inquisitor.

Spoiler:
I liked the concept and it really got him away from the 'Batman Knock off.' bit.

I remember seeing a Moon Knight hero clik somewhere. Break off the clik base, and glue him to a standard base. Now he looks just like you want.

I'll throw down another vote for inquisitor. I think they have access to Bull's Strength, too.

Also, take a look at the 3.5 Spell Compendium. There's a ton of light based and moon based spells in there. Maybe you could convince your GM to let a few in, or swap them for inquisitor spells that you don't care about.

Third vote for Inquisitor -- at least when he was being written as a mystical character drawing his power from a source ("Fist of Khonshu") -- you still get the skill money and toys that fit, too, which is good. And you could take a domain that grants you the smashing/beat down powers (Strength, Rage, Ferocity...)

Definitely inquisitor. You may want to look into some of the old Osirion gods, or just ask your DM if you can make one up. I don't think that Calistria would work, even though she's the goddess of vengeance. Maybe Nethys instead?

You might try the unarmed fighter archtype, they get a lot of interesting little tricks (MK is a dirty fighter) without using outright magic (which moon knight never does).

I don't understand all the calls to make him unarmed. Other than the Punisher, Moon Knight uses MORE weapons than nearly any other "hero" in the Marvel Universe. Staff, throwing cressent "darts", nunchaku, silvered spiked "brass" knuckles, hell at one time he used a big golden ankh as a club.

Only one incarnation had his strength being anything other than normal human levels, and that one gave him up to Spider-Man level strength under a full moon, with normal human levels under a new moon and something in between for waxing and waning moons.

He's an in-your-face, straight up martial artist using anything and everything to his advantage in melee. He's a monk or monk/fighter.

Monk/cleric, as I do not care for the inquisitor.

My vote is for Fighter/Rogue. His fighting prowess (Fighter), use of a variety of weapons (Fighter), wide variety of skills (Rogue), penchant for maintaining 4 separate identities (Rogue), along with his quickness and ability to do ungodly amounts of damage to foes when they least expect it (Rogue) indicate this selection would be appropriate.

As for his connection to Khonshu, he has been at odds with Khonshu more often than he has worked with him, so I would downplay the Cleric/Inquisitor options that have been discussed so far in this thread.

Liberty's Edge

Moon Knight's my favorite comic book character as well, and I own a copy of every book he's been in with the exception of a few one-panel cameos so I think I've got a pretty good handle on him.

A lot of classes could work for various incarnations of Moon Knight and depending on what elements you want to play up, but I think Fighter/Rogue sounds good to me as well if you want an overall, general Moon Knight sort of feel. Specifically, the Unbreakable fighter archetype and the Sanctified Rogue archetype.

Aside from a damaged psyche, a few things about Moon Knight have been consistent throughout every incarnation of the character.

*Tough as nails (Unbreakable abilities)
*Proficiency with nearly every weapon known to man (Fighter levels)
*Sneaky (Stealth, Escape Artist)
*Excellent unarmed combat ability (Fighter levels, Acrobatics, Sneak Attack)
*Ability to blend in with every level of society (Disguise, Knowledge Local, Diplomacy, Bluff)

Unbreakable/Sanctified Rogue more-or-less encapsulates all that while still giving a Moon Knight-based PC a touch of mysticism thanks to the rogue's Divine Blessing and Augury emulating Marc's connection to Khonshu. How you divide up the levels is up to you. I think I'd lean toward Fighter 12/Rogue 8 or maybe forgo Augury for Stalwart at Fighter 13/Rogue 7.
