Getting Golarion started (Help requested)

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Hello everyone!

It took some time but I finally got my copy of Pathfinder RPG and a group to play.

I really would like to take a look into the Golarion Campaign Setting.

Which books are a good start for that?

I now there is the PF Chronicles Campaign Setting but that was designed with 3.5 in mind.

Is there a PF-RPG update or something?

Maybe someone can picture me the general feeling of the setting?
You know, Eberron has its "Tech-Magic", Ravenloft: "Horror", Dragonlance: "Lost-Gods", Forgotten Realms: "...whatever".

Hope you know what I am aiming at.

Golarion has all of the above general feelings to it.
It just depends were you want to start your game.
Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Inner Sea World Guide (PFRPG)
I belive this is the book you are looking for, however there are books with more specific information that are based on more limited nations/areas.
Such as:
Pathfinder Chronicles: Guide to the River Kingdoms (PFRPG)
Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Lands of the Linnorm Kings
etc..

As BEGS said, the Inner Sea World Guide is the new campaign setting. It has been updated to PFRPG rules, expanded to 320 pages and generally tweaked.

As for the general feeling of the setting: The setting's motto seems to be "The best of all possible worlds", referring to the saying "the best of both worlds", but with more than two choices. In other words: It tries to have something for everyone. You could also call it a "kitchen sink" setting.

If you want weird super science, there is Numeria with the ancient wrecks of crashed star ships, gothic horror is served by the Undying Principality of Ustalav, Varisia is a wild borderland with bastions of civilisation (or what passes for it in some places) amidst hordes of goblins, ogres and giants, Cheliax caters to those who want to fight an evil empire (the nation's state religion is Asmodeus, Prince of Darkness and lord of Hell).......

There aren't many fantasy ideas that don't have a home in the Pathfinder Campaign Setting.

Other than the fantasy genres that KaeYoss outlined, if you're interested in cultural settings for feel rather than history, you have the Viking Area, Slavic Areas, Native American, Arabian, Persian, Byzantine. Not developed for you but there is the indo pacific, india, Orient. Plus it adequately represents all the biomes.

It is really great. I like to approach things from the Cultural perspective myself.

Check out PathfinderWiki for a great (and free) intro to the world setting. After that, I would recommend the Inner Sea World Guide and the Inner Sea Primer.

+1 and thanks for the plug

It may be from "Candide," where Pangloss rather optimistically concluded that this world was "the best of all possible worlds."
