Back in 3.0 there was an armor ability bye the name of 'called' it was a +1 equivalent enchantment.
It let you magically don (and I think remove) armor as a standard action.
So you could walk around town with the armor in your handy haversack or on a rack next to your bed. So if you were surprised (and survived the first round) you could quickly put on the armor.
This was not put into 3.5 or pathfinder as far as I can tell.
Did some people think this was overpowered? I always thought it was a pretty nifty trick and sometimes purchased it for my tanks but I never thought it was overpowered.
I don't see any particular problem allowing it in my campaign. Am I missing something?

Check the APG, there is something called Folding Plate. It's a set of +1 plate armor that on command folds up into an amulet. Costs 12,650, and a set of normal +1 full plate costs 2650... so for the price of 10,000 gp you can have any armor do the same.
There are also spells for clerics and such called Instant Armor, it's not your armor, but it does help.

Yeah the folding armor is pretty kool. It costs more and uses up your amulet slot, but is worth it. I think my players missed it though. I will have to remind them.
I had not noticed that spell. Thanks.

Actually, when unfolded it doesn't take up the amulet slot, so while deployed, any other amulet will begin working.

I confess to not having appropriately acquainted myself with the APG's contents yet. I'd missed this neat trick as well.
Kydeem, was that armor in a Dragon article? I remember a Dragon article full of nifty armor options including one that I think is the one you are referencing. I remember it because I decided it was ideal for an arcane caster - wear armor normally, "blink" it off to cast, "blink" it back on when not casting. Very much an adventuring mage's solution to needing more armor while avoiding the pesky ASF!

Dude, it was totally in 3.5. It's in Magic Item Compendium and it only costs +2000 gold to put it on the armor.

It was in a 3.0 splat book. I think it was the one for clerics for some wierd reason.
I think it was a standard action so not just blink on and off, but still pretty useful.

Aha! I do not have the magic item compendium. Since they are supposedly just a compendium of stuff available in the other source books, I never was willing to dishout the cash for them.

It is, and everything's cheaper.
