Traveling and Distances

Advice

Hello,

I'm hoping to get some help on how to handle traveling between one city to another. For this situation we'll say the players are traveling to Riddleport from Magnimar. Obstacles include a river, a large forest, and the option to charter a ship with enough money.

First off, how would you decide the length of time travel takes?

Secondly, how do you fill those slow gaps? It's not like they can fight a group of bandits every 30 minutes. What suggestions does anyone have on keeping traveling lively?

Lastly, what sort of differences am I looking at when it comes to traveling on foot verses horses? Or boats if they decide to travel via sea?

Thanks for your time!

Have a look at pages 171 to 174 of the core rulebook for rates of travel by foot, horse or boat.

If you want them to travel for three weeks without incident, you can just say so, or insert encounters or challenges according to the pace you want to maintain and the amount of time or resources you have to prepare.
