see them driven before us, and hear the lamentations of their significant others.
In honor of the movie this weekend, we need to stat up Conan. I'll Start with young, fresh faced Conan - just starting out on his Barbaric Journey. Because he is epic and because he cleave me in twain if I didn't, I'll give him 25-point-buy abilities.

From what I've heard,Conan actually could be a Warden(or Wild Stalker, can't remember which) ranger.
You can make the arguement for pretty much any melee class. In the original novels he is:
A barbarian (no need to explain this).
A rogue (early career he is a thief, master robber, climber, etc)
A Ranger (master scout, better than the picts)
A Fighter (better than anyone else with pretty much any weapon)
A Monk (he beats anyone when unarmed as well, i love the storey where he breaks the master wrestlers neck)
Cavalier (master of tactics later in his career and is great on a horse as well)
A bard (he inspires a lot of people and gets all the chicks)
Rogue may be the weakest arguement as he solved most problems through his athletism. I suppose he is not really a bard as well, but he does have masterful leadership qualities!
He is also a great sailer as well, or shall we say pirate.
He defianlty is not a paladin!
Anyway, it is a fun game to play. Perhaps the best way to look at it is that he is 20th level while everyone else is 10th level or lower.
He is basically a pulp hero! He can do anything!

Problem with Conan is he's considerably more than 25 point buy. In the source material, he's always defined as being obscenely strong, stronger than anyone else you might happen to know. Frequently he's stronger than people who are size large. So you pretty well have to rate him as 18+2 racial, or 20 to start. That's what, 17 points right there? I know someone personally who has Strength 18 estimated via amount of weight they can hold over their head in a military press--that's in the 1 in 1000 to 1 in 10000 level among people. He'd be marginal in the NFL, he didn't make the draft and probably had around a 10% or so chance to make the leap from college to pro.
On to dexterity---Conan is described repeatedly as moving like either a cat or a wolf. If you're really really stingy, like I am (I view every 2 points of an attribute as representing a standard deviation from the mean), you could justify giving him a 14, which puts him at around the 98th percentile level. So 5 more points here
On to constitution--again Conan is described as having crazy constitution, in terms of how he heals, his superlative endurance, and how much of a beating he can withstand. Stingy guys like me could give him a 16. 10 more points down
On to Intelligence---I can buy your 14 (which I interpret as the equivalent of 98th percentile again). He's smart and has a gift for strategy & tactics. 5 more points
On to Wisdom---I can believe 12. This is his lowest stat. 2 points
On to Charisma---Being really parsimonious, I can say 14, 2 sigma again. He inspires a lot of loyalty and his women will return from the depths of hell to give him a round or two of breathing space (Queen of the Black Coast). Again 5 more points
So all told we have 17+5+10+5+2+5---42 points.
Conan isn't a point buy character, he's a rolled character with some very hot (or loaded dice).

Looking on the original stories by REH I would say that Conan was mostly Ranger/Rogue/Fighter with exceptional ability scores (exceptional as in 25 pts build is for civilized weaklings) with a sprinkling of Barbarian class (which should be properly named named Berserker and most people called barbarians should be Rangers or Fighters with survival traited to be class skill).
Hm, after looking on stats: maybe reduce Constitution to 14 and Strength to 16 and increase his Dexterity to 14, he was described multiple times as agaile like a predatory cat. Also, I think that his first level should be Ranger.

I dunno, I always saw the barbarian class as having been built from the ground up to represent Conan and guys like him. Raging gives him his extreme strength and endurance, it's what allows him to push into those superhuman areas occasionally. I'd have liked to have given him a higher dex, but then I'd have had to drop his wisdom or Charisma even further, and I didn't think that would be right.
Anyway, Barbarian class gives him access to occasional superhuman abilities, he gets the proper weapon and armor proficiencies, a good amount of skill points (especially when you make him a reasonably smart guy like REH did) to represent his broad range of experiences. The only thing the Barbarian doesn't provide is a class ability related to raw sex appeal.

Here's a link to a site where someone statted him out for 3e: http://old.enworld.org/Inzeladun/conan.htm . Could just convert to Pathfinder. I think making him a ranger with the skirmisher archetype fits pretty good. BTW saw the movie and it was awesome! But comparing it to the first Arnie movie is like comparing apples and oranges.
