Duplicating Bonded Item casting.

Rules Questions

Pathfinder 3.75 Wizard must choose either a familiar or a bonded item. The bonded item gives you various benefits and risks. I am trying to figure out how much it would cost to reproduce the following effect in a wondrous item; The wizard may use the item to cast any spell in his current book even if that spell is not currently memorized, usable once per day.

Can anyone figure a cost to create such an item? Please show your work... And please include the cost to increase the once per day limit.

A good starting point is a 9th level pearl of power, which costs 81k.

This is more powerful though, because it lets you cast a spell of any level, and not of a specific level. It also lets you cast any spell you know, and not just one you had memorized and cast.

A "fair" price relative to existing magic items will likely make it cost prohibitive. Maybe 200k?

well im not sure how you would go about but there is the

Amulet of Spell Cunning (APG): This silver locket only has power when used as a wizard's bonded object. It allows a wizard to prepare an additional 3 levels of spells per day. 10000gp. neck slot.

this may help with some sort of base price to look at. Since what you want to do duplicates a class ability, typically I use 3.0 chart for adding feats to magic items found in the Arms and Equipment Guide. and I that would be 10000gp starting then 5000-10000gp pet prereq for the feat. its at least a starting place.

I'd price it as a combination of a relevant Pearl of Power and a Blessed Book, and tell the player that he'll have to devote additional resources to improving it as he goes up in level, or have it cap out at the level of spells it can affect.

So, when all he knows is first level spells, it'd be calculated as 12,500 +1,500 GP (the price of the blessed book + 1.5x the price of a pearl of power). Eventually the pearl becomes the more expensive portion of the construction, typically right around the time he knows fourth level spells.

At that point, the cost switches over to being (Pearl Price) + 18,750 GP. going forward.

And of course, there'd be the cost of inscribing the spells.

Additionally, if you set it up as an actually spell book, multiply the cost of the item by two for it not taking up an actual item slot.

Thank you all for the excellent suggestions. I'm still working with my DM on this and we have no idea if it will be possible or even feasible. If you, or anyone has any further suggestions please keep them coming.

I responded to this in your other thread about the topic, here: http://paizo.com/forums/dmtz4bhz?Bonded-item-duplication#2

I don't believe in allowing the duplication of a core class feature in a magic item, especially one this powerful. If it came up in my campaign the answer (after spending much gold and time in research) would be a flat out impossible.

Oh, I seemed to have misread the question. I thought it was how to make a wondrous item the object of your arcane bond, which is what I was trying to figure out.
