What is the Heal check DC to see if someone is Pregnant?

Rules Questions

This came up and we needed to know. DM made a quick houserule, but not going to say anything to skew the discussion.

Probably depends on how many months pregnant

1 35
2 30
3 25
4 25
5 20
6 15
7 10
8 5
9 0

Figure at 1 month someone is doing the sherlock holmes thing and figuring it out based on clues even They're not picking up.

+5 to the DC for bulky clothes.

+5 to the DC for overweight characters.

+8 for scent or blind sense/sight. It does in fact mess with your body chemistry.

Now i can't get the image of a bat druid being used as a D&D ultrasound out of my mind...

Wow, is this a total cold call? I mean... I've played a high level cleric that intentionally got knocked up after getting married (since finding the barren fields cantrip in some 3PP splat, we've assumed any adult spell caster can use it for free as it is not game breaking in any way), and rolled over 10 in her first month for a total of 30 something on her check, but

seriously? I mean, if you're going to a cleric or any other type of healer to determine if you're pregnant you have to have reasons for the suspicion, right?

Or she has a broken leg and ISN'T going to determine anything.

He said needed to know, as in, someone knew or suspected that the character was pregnant and needed to confirm - or at least that is how I read it. But of course, if I was wrong in my interpretation of the situation, I am ever so glad that your snide comment pointed out my error.

The real question is the DC of the diplomacy check to recover from asking the question if she isn't pregnant. That's gotta be at least a 35.

Liberty's Edge

Sir Felix Einen, my Ranger in RotRL, had the patriarch of Erastil in Magnimar cast Commune after he raised the point that Felix's wedding ceremony might have resulted in his wife before Urgathoa becoming pregnant. Much to Felix's dismay, the answer was a resounding YES.

Long story involving alcohol and drugs abuse. Nothing nice really, but one of the best scenario (based on the Hangover movie) I have ever played and chokefull of opportunities for interesting consequences for my character.

Trust me. there is nothing like having your rich and powerful and most of all dangerous Necromancer (at least) of a father-in-law asking you for a little favor.

Well I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings but my point is that regardless of how it came up in his game it's a good question. Healers may have a very different reaction to a woman who is pregnant as opposed to one who is not. More so if the healer and the woman in question know each other. And that this may come up even if the woman didn't come to said healer for confirmation of being with child.

Race would be a factor for sure. Differant changes in the body for each race. Someone else mentioned time. Add 5 to the DC for each factor, add another 5 or 10 if the character doing the heal check is trying to do it in the field, and without making the patient strip naked. That is my take on it. I have never seen a real break down as far as in a book or something, but thats what GMs are for is to make calls like this and hopefully you trust his/her ability enough to do so.

If it is a healer examining a possibly pregnant woman, I'd say the DC wouldn't have to be very high, like 20 or 25 in the early months. it should be less at later stages; and as already mentioned, different races would call for different DC.
But if there is no time or opportunity for proper examination, I'd say it should be a Perception check, possibly opposed by Disguise (if the woman in question is trying to hide her condition). It depends on the situation.

Huh. thought it was a perception check you were looking for. Probably drop the above listed DC's by 10 if it was a thorough search/exam rather than just looking
