What happens if you want to be hit?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Let's say you're being attacked and for some reason it would be advantageous for you to be hit.

How would the rules work in this instance?

Just announce that you open up all of your defenses and be allowed to be hit. Basically this makes you flat-footed so that you are easier to be hit. It is kind of like failing your saving throw.

The rules don't really cover this... you could reasonably forego dex to ac, dodge bonuses, and shield bonuses I suppose, but full plate doesn't stop working just cause you decide.

I'm quite intrigued though, in what possible situation would it ever be advantageous to be struck.

Heavenly Fire (Celestial Sorcerer) is one.

drop dex to 0 (-5 dex mod), forgo everything else, drop prone, and stun yourself. Ac 3, and melee opponents get +2 to hit you. they can only miss on fumbles, or if they have a -to hit and roll low

I suppose, with the caveat of that being a horrible use of a standard action.

Unwilling Shield is another.

The cursed Bracers that lower your ac instead of raising it.

Enlarge person.

Any cursed item that reverses ac bonuses

Bestow curse?

Cursed Bracers -8, charge, free action drop prone, apply stunned condition and declair you lower your effective dex to 0 for a -5 mod

Ac= -7, melee opponents get +2 to hit.

even the venerable commoner with a 1 str and a non proficient weapon (-9 to hit) hits you on a not fumble.

Your base armor class is 10+modifiers, which is kind of like the take 10 rule. So use your flat-footed AC-10, that should be a good simulation of wanting to be hit.

if you can ignore the 10, my example jumps to -17 ac

EVERYTHING hits you :P

the old man 1st level commoner dual weilding onehanded weapons with a 1 str has-17 to hit. +2 if you're prone.he clubs you twice :P

also i forgot about being encumbered. you can knock a few more points off

I had a situation once where my players were tossing a mapcase around, trying to keep an invisible thief from obtaining it (while others worked out making the thief visible or killing her). I figured that catching a good throw is a lot easier than making a good throw, so I had the throwers just use the touch AC of whoever they were trying to "hit." To catch was just a move action and succeeded automatically assuming the throw "hit."

As an aside, my "plot" was contingent on the map falling into enemy hands--but the players kept the thief running back and forth. They never missed a throw and the thief never got close. It was so great I decided to work around the bad guys never getting their hands on the player's map.

Two points of nonlethal damage, hell yeah. Way to go, old handicapped commoner!
