Bonus spells and multiclassing

Rules Questions

Alright, I know this is probably a noob question, but I've gotta ask it...

How do bonus spells work when you multiclass? Say you take two spellcasting classes where their bonus spells are determined by different ability scores. Do you get two sets of bonus spells? If not, how do you know which ability score to use to determine bonus spells?

track the classes separately.

So they get two sets of bonus spells. Just to clarify, a level 1 Cleric/level 1 Wizard with an 18 Int and 18 Wis gets the following spell slots:

Cleric
4 level 0 spells (3 from Cleric, 1 bonus)
3 level 1 spells (2 from Cleric, 1 bonus, 1 domain slot)

Wizard
4 level 0 spells (3 from Wizard, 1 bonus)
2 level 1 spells (1 from Wizard, 1 bonus)

And a level 1 Cleric/level 1 Inquisitor with an 18 Wis would get the following spell slots:

Cleric
4 level 0 spells (3 from Cleric, 1 bonus)
3 level 1 spells (2 from Cleric, 1 bonus, 1 domain slot)

Inquisitor
2 level 0 spells (1 from Inq, 1 bonus)
1 level 1 spells (1 bonus)

Almost.

You never get bonus 0 level spells from a high ability score. Other than that, though, spot on.

EDIT: Your table for clerics is a bit off. They do get 3 level 1s, as you say, but it is 1 Cleric + 1 ability + 1 domain, not 2 cleric + 1 ability + 1 domain.

EDIT AGAIN: Your inquisitor is a bit off too.

He gets unlimited 0th level spells and 2 1st level spells (1 class, 1 bonus), drawn from his 4 0th level and 2 1st level spells known. Note that spontaneous casters never gain bonus spells known from a high ability score, just extra spells per day.

OK, so other than all my mistakes, I was right! :D Thanks for the clarifications. I'm on the right track now, I just need to be more careful when adding up the numbers.

I am assuming you are talking about running with something like a Wizard/Cleric, a Sorcerer/Druid or some such combination.

Yes you get bonus spells for each class. Each class has its own ability for which bonus spells are based (Wizard>Intelligence, Cleric/Druid/Paladin/Ranger>Wisdom, Sorcerer/Bard>Charisma). If the relative ability score is high enough, you get bonus spells for that class.

This means if you are playing a Wizard/Cleric, you would need a high Intelligence AND a high Wisdom in order to get bonus spells for both classes. If you have a high Intelligence (say 18), but a low Wisdom (say 12), you would get bonus spells for the Wizard class but not for the cleric class.

Hope this clears it up.

EDIT: ninja'd by other folks ... d'oh!! And good clarification point on spontaneous casters Bascaria. What I listed above is for prepared spells or spells available for daily casting (in the case of spontaneous caster), not known spells.

Thanks Zylphryx. Your reply was very clear, and if it had been first I would not have needed any clarification!
