Castle Whiterock 3.5 or Pathfinder?

Conversions

I was challenged to run the entire Castle Whiterock for my group. We have all the 3.5 books as well as all the Pathfinder core books and a few others.

I am not that experienced with 3.5 or Pathfinder but I do have a lot of time Dming other editions under my belt. I am however rather lazy when it comes to spending a whole lot of time prepping the game. A hour or two per game session is ok,beyond that im fudging things.

I do not have to have everything balanced or by the book but I would like to give the PC's a run for there money.

If I used Pathfinder for our games is it going to cause major issues? I realize Pathfinder characters are more powerful but this group runs old school style races and class's and really they are known for getting in over there heads so maybe it will work out? Im not against throwing a extra monster or three at them to make them work for there money from time to time.

I could just use 3.5 but dang it some of my Pathfinder books have never been opened!

Let me know what you guys think and if it's not too much a pain what you think I should do to make things balanced as far as beefing up the monsters go.

Thanks for your Help!

It's fairly easy to convert, just try to replace monsters in the campaign from the Bestiary when possible, and fudge a few numbers in the stat blocks. Basically, use a DM screen, and you'll be fine. You'll also have to remember that PFRPG PCs are a little bit more powerful than their 3.5 counterparts, so maybe add a couple of extra bad guys here and there.

One thing you might want to consider, though, is a different campaign. Castle Whiterock is a great box set, but if your players are REALLY Old school, you might want to take a look at Necromancer Games stuff, specifically Rapan Athuk. It's really old school, and really, really deadly.

Loved Rapan Athuk and it was the first thing I thought of to play with 3.5 but one of my players read the entire thing because he was going to run it then after reading it all decided he wanted to play instead.

Is it possible to just not convert monster to pathfinder at all and just run Whiterock as is? I would just give the monsters max hit points or throw in a extra one from time to time.

Thats what I want to do anyway. You guys would know better than I if that would work.

If I need to do any conversion more than that I will prob just run it with 3.5,though I would rather do it with Pathfinder.

Thanks again!

I've run a chunk of "Castle Whiterock". There are a lot of NPCs with classes, and the adventure includes a lot of higher-level magic that works differently between they game systems. I would recommend using the D&D 3.5 ruleset.

If you run under Pathfinder, I strongly recommend you run (a) Core rules only, and (b) using the monsters in the 3.5 Monster Manual.

We played it with PF characters. The GM used the PF's orcs feriocity to make them more difficult. If the group is good at optimizing it may be worth it to at least convert the boss characters, but if not then run it as is.

I think that you should have little or no issue using Pathfinder but, to kind of echo Chris, limit yourself with just the basic books.

The conversion itself should not be all that time consuming, and worth the effort.

The group does not optimize at all. Frankly I love these guys but they are not into builds, min maxing or going getting the most out of the characters. They mostly do everything half-hazard and for in character reasons.
Not that I mind that at all,its just they tend to not only have issues with being underpowered for there level but also to chew off a lot more than they can handle.

Leads to some fun/funny games.

The game is somewhat dangerous. I was playing with a lot of new guys. They were dropping like flies. Myself and the other experienced player were the only ones not fearing for our lives.
