Use Magic Device: Emulate a Class Feature. What specific items can I use this on?

Rules Questions

Every single item I've found that one *could* conceivably use this with has a good argument for why it *won't* work.

So what items can I use this with?

Can I use this with Gloves of Dueling to get +2 to hit and damage? Does emulating the class feature Weapon Training mean I have Weapon Training +0?

Can I use this with a ring of revelations?

What about a Vest of the Cockroach? Do I get Resilency?

Can this use of UMD do *anything*?

Emulating race has a clear example (Dwarven Thrower).

it should work with gloves of dueling

and maybe a furious weapon if you can emulate raging. Not sure about that "Rage" is a class feature, but can you UMD "Raging"?

So for the purposes of weapon training, I am treated as having a weapon training bonus of +0? No matter what my class is.

I'm interested in any official rulings.

Most items allow it to be used. The list of "can not's" is a lot easier to obtain.

I do think the gloves of dueling are possible, but you have to UMD an item everytime you use it so you would have to take an action to activate the gloves, and then attack. It is not really worth the effort.

The ring of revelation was a no IMO, going by a conversation I had with another poster.

I would say no for the vest of the cockroach because emulating class feature means emulating a class feature that a class always has, such as smite evil, not one from a list of selectable ones such as bonus feats for a monk or talents for a rogue. <--This is a good FAQ question.

UMD can not activate every item, but it is good for most items.

Would you mind listing a few items you think it'd work with Wraithstrike?

Almost every item that is magic can be used with UMD. Like I said the list of "nots" is a lot smaller than the list of wills. Making a list of magic items that work with UMD is like making a list of water based animals that can breathe underwater. It is easier to track a short list of ones that have to come to the surface to breathe.

...not being snarky. I just could not think of a better analogy.

One of the problems is most of the items you might want to emulate actually require you be able to DO the thing in question.

A good example is a strand of prayer beads. You could emulate divine casting and use the item to activate the various spells in the item, but if you triggered the caster level +4 bead it just wouldn't do anything. T

The Phylactries of channeling you might be able to activate them but since you can't channel there is no point, it doesn't boost an ability that you don't possess.

What if you were an arcane caster and UMD'd the beads for +CL?

That's a bit more ambiguous. I can see it argued either way. The item description mentions divine spells earlier in the the text so my first thought is it should be limited to divine but... *shrug*

At some point you have to recognize that the player has invested in the skill and should be able to benefit from that. Either you are a sorcerer who puts 33-50% of her skill points into it, or you are a wizard who has lots of skill point but has moderate charisma and likely skill focus to make it work reliably.
