Wands in PFS

In Pathfinder Society, I know it's common practice to use your first 2 PA to get a "free" Wand of Cure Light Wounds. I also know that for Sorcerers/Wizards, a common second PA purchase is a Wand of Magic Missile. My question is this: what other 1st-level wands are worth PA-ing? I have a cleric who just hit level 2, and has acquired the aforementioned WoCLW. I was considering getting a Wand of Shield of Faith, to tap all the melee guys before opening a suspicious door. Worthwhile?

Scarab Sages

That's not a bad idea, but I think I would lean towards bless myself.

I prefer to save most of my PA up for a Raise Dead spell, personally.

I had considered Bless, but I thought it might fail to scale with our challenges a bit. I mean, at maybe 3 shots per scenario, that's 16 scenarios or 5 levels. I haven't really played high-level clerics... does Bless get used at level 6-7?

Yes, but I think I can spare the first 4 (2 being for the aforementioned WoCLW), don't you think? My level 3 fighter has spent 4 PA (WoCLW and a nice bow) and is now getting close to the threshold of a PA Raise. Or do you think he's just been lucky so far?

Other decent wands:
Mage armor (I've seen a lot of monks carrying these having other characters use it on them, or using UMD)
Infernal healing, particularly if you can use it yourself.
Vanish, disappear for one round with no AoO or hit the fighter with it so he can have a round of invisible movement.
Silent Image
Expeditious Excavation, Instant cover
Anticipate peril, instant 'Improved Initiative' for the boss fights

Most of these will last for a long time.

Kind of an interesting observation, By the time you have enough PA for a raise dead you are getting 2,000+ gold per mission. So you can just save up the gold fairly quickly at that point so I just changed over to burning PA on wands and scrolls. Hopefully there will be more interesting options for PA soon.

My experience may be skewed by the fact that I've played a lot of Season 0 adventures, of course.

But generally speaking, my attitude towards wands is this: if you don't expect to use it 20+ times over the course of your character's career, you're probably better off just buying a few scrolls. Since a PFS character only lasts for 33 adventures (and towards the end, you're probably not wasting your time using level 1 wands any more), that's probably not the case for most spells.

Maybe for your arcanist, but personally I'd spend that 750 gold on something far more useful like a wand of Endure Elements.

That's risky, 0gre. There's no way in PFS to "bank" money; you have to carry all your loot with you everywhere you go. Many times, whoever killed you will also loot your body. It doesn't matter how much gold you had at the beginning of the scenario, or how much your actions would have earned; if you're stripped penniless when they kill you, then you can't pay gold for a raise dead.

Unless it's a TPK or an enemy who manages to loot your body and escape all while the rest of the party is fighting against them, I don't see how you'll be left penniless when you die.

What does PA stand for anyway?

I'd honestly never thought about this.

Pretty much any character that is killed and has his body looted is screwed regardless. Is there something inherent in getting raised through PA that saves you from this?

Prestige Award. As you adventure in Society play, you have side objectives related to your character's faction, and achieving them gains you PA. You can spend PA to get "free" spellcasting services or items, within certain limits.

In the context of this thread it stands for something you can spend other that gold. 2PA can be redeemed for a single item worth up to 750 gold so 1st level wands are a common choice.

Well a few questions first: Do you adventure with the same group normally? What domains do you have access to (especially for spell completion)? And do you have any UMD/can afford a rank of it to get +1 UMD or higher?

You have the following cleric spells that I would consider and rank:
Bless (at higher levels it's true its mostly Vrock clean up)
Comprehend Languages
Endure Elements (when you want it you normally want it for everyone)
Infernal Healing
Obscuring Mist
Know the enemy (if you have decent knowledge ranks)
Prot evil
Shield of Faith
Tap Inner Beauty (if pumping CHA skills, otherwise scroll)

Probably better on scrolls:
Detect alignment spells (unless you find you like them)
Hide from Undead (unless they become trendy)
Remove Sickness (toss up whether it will come up enough/avoid AOOs)
Swallow your Fear (again frequency question)
Unbreakable heart (likely at CL 3 or so, or 6 if using PA)
Weapons against evil (use 1PA to get a CL 6 version)
