What is U-Con?
The U-Con Gaming Convention is a gathering of gamers and companies from all over. You can meet new people and participate in many different events. We have events that are sure to pique the interest of the most avid gamer, as well as those new to the hobby. We offer a wide variety of role-playing events, as well as many board and war games. We also offer Live Action RPG's and collectable card game tournaments and events. We are one of the largest gaming conventions in Michigan.
Aside from gaming, we have an exhibitors hall filled with a wide variety of exhibitors selling everything from swords to dice, shirts to games, and a number of other unique and interesting items. And what convention is complete without an auction? Of course we have one!

We will be featuring the GenCon Special Scenario "Blood Under Absalom" as well as a wide variety of PFS scenarios. We hope to continue the growth of PFS at U-Con and invite you to be a part of it. This will be the 4th year that Pathfinder Society events have been run at U-Con. Last year we did 53 sessions, this year we are aiming for 80. This means we'll need a lot of GMs to volunteer. GM four slots and get a complimentary convention badge. If you are coming in from out of town and are interested in GMing six or more slots I can provide you with lodging. Contact me pfs.rc.detroit@gmail.com and I'll get you more details.

Looks like I'm in for Saturday and slot one on Sunday to judge. My Friday is booked to play :-)
Bob, you need to run Iron Medusa at UCon this year. Seems like I missed out at GenCon.
Doug, put me down for GMing GenCon Special Scenario "Blood Under Absalom". I will probably GM another slot as well.

Huh... I can't believe it, but when I told my wife when the convention was, she said, "As long as you take me out to dinner somewhere, we can go" :D So, I'd be up to possibly running a few games.
I haven't run any PFS yet, but I talked my monthly 4e group into switching once we're done with the current adventure and we might be starting a PFS game going at our FLGS, so I'll hopefully have a few games under my belt by the time the Con comes around.

Craig, you know there is a biweekly PFS game at BC Comix in Fenton, right?
If I understand correctly, that is on Thursdays. Weekday night PFS is not a possibility for me. Plus, I have a regular online PFS game on most Sundays, so my usual participation in PFS is covered. I'm just watching for other cons to attend.

Doug,
I am pretty sure I'd like to make it down for UCon. I'm also very interested in GMing my backside off for my second star. I've heard your have something special for crazy people interested in GMing 6+ slots. Who doesn't want 30 hrs of PFS over a 72 hr period? I wonder if I can get away with gming 6 and playing 4.... sleep is for the weak. :D

Well, the convention only programs enough time for 7 slots...but this year I think we're in for a surprise development. It may create fertile ground for after-hours play. If you can e-mail me at pfs.rc.detroit@gmail.com so I have your contact info, I'll add you to the list and contact you as the schedule firms up. Thanks for the interest & support!

Reminder to anyone who didn't know: If you run at least one event your weekend pass is free. This doesn't mean just PFS events, but any events. Several members of the d20pfsrd.com crew will be attending this year and one or two of us will be running various (non-PFS) RPG events.
I (jreyst) am planning to run a non-PFS Pathfinder session personally.
If you'd like to run an event, go here and get submitted asap!
Or for general information, go to ucon-gaming.org.

Eric Clingenpeel wrote:So, any chance of there being Boons handed out at U-Con?If you are thinking about the GenCon boons, those were exclusive to that convention. There's a possibility that a convention rewards program might be ready by October, but I'm not prepared to promise anything yet.
Doug, email me and we can talk about getting a few special boons.

Man, that stinks. I was really looking forward to playing both the GenCon Special and maybe getting a chance at some boons. Unfortunately the only weekend one of my groups can meet before the end of the year is that weekend. <Sigh> well, hope you guys have fun.
EDIT: Is there any way to run a gencon special at a home game?

The news is here. Preregistration is open! Due to the delay caused by the venue change, we have not completed event recruitment - we are still looking for events! Expect more to be added in the next couple weeks. If there is a game you want to play, but it is not listed, please consider signing up as a gamemaster. It ensures that the game you want is available and also your badge price is refunded!
We are excited to tell you that we have reduced our costs for 2011 and passed the savings on to you! We lowered weekend badge prices by $5. Additionally, we will have a single event ribbon which would allow you to play most events all weekend as if you had generic tickets. The ribbon will be available onsite for $15.
You can prereigster now at our website until 11:59 PM on Thursday November 3!
Register: http://www.ucon-gaming.org/gcs/reg/register.php
Browse events: http://www.ucon-gaming.org/gcs/events/browse.php
Search: http://www.ucon-gaming.org/gcs/events/browse.phpWe have negotiated an even lower rate for hotel rooms! Now king and double rooms are $60 per night under our room block. Suites are available at a higher rate. As of tomorrow, Oct 13, reservations may be made by calling the Metropolitan Hotel at 734-467-8000 and mentioning U-Con.
See you in November!

Is there any way to run a gencon special at a home game?
Last year's special (Shadow Lodge) requires three tables.
This year's special (Blood Under Absalom) requires five tables. This is just the minimum required for the event to be sanctioned and reportable. You are free to run it for a single table of players in any venue, but it would not be official and no chronicles should be awarded.
|
So with Doug stepping down who is coordinating PFS for this con?
I'll be there and am willing to run :-)
Just because Doug has resigned as VC-Detroit, does not affect his organizer status. He is still coordinating PFS for this year's Ucon. I look forward to working under his leadership again.
|
Doug,
I will be there all day Friday & Saturday for sure. Will be there at least for the 1st slot on Sunday. What scenarios should I prep for? EDIT: I'd like to help with the special if able to.
Also, Matt Haddix is looking at coming to GM as well. If he does, and I will let you know. We'd both be there the entire con for sure if he does end up coming.
Thank you.

I understand that U-Con has moved locations. Will that have any impact on the PFS events?
Does anyone know how many tables are expected to be offered per time slot? I was checking out online registration and all of the game listings were for 6 players. This was even the case with the listing for the Special on Saturday night. I know that this is a multi-table event.
I am considering going but I am not sure what day(s) I can make it. I was trying to determine if I should be worried about signing up for events in advance.

I don't believe that moving venues will have any affect on PFS offerings, in fact, from what I've seen (of the list for judges so far) there is more being offered this year than last.
The number of tables offered per slot are varied depending on the day.. Saturday will have more tables offered than Friday or Sunday as that is the day most people will be able to make it.
If you're having to choose a day, I would pick Saturday.
The best advice for signing up in advance is to do so if there are specific scenarios you want to play. We don't necessarily know who is judging which scenarios yet so there isn't a way to cherry-pick GMs.
Hope that helps, I know it's kind of vague in spots ... but I'm not the organizer and not sure where he's at in releasing information at this point.

Oh.
Sorry, Thea. ThornDJL7 has banned the Shackleton contingent.

Thanks to everyone who has volunteered to help out at U-Con this year. I had to turn down GMs in some cases. This year I have a bounty of 21 GMs to assist me. The schedule sure did fill up quick!
Please note there have been some big changes to this convention. First of all the location has been changed. U-Con will not be at the University of Michigan this year. It has moved to the Metropolitan Hotel in Romulus. Please see the U-Con website for details. Also, the slot times have shifted from what was originally circulated.
Someone asked about the schedule at U-Con. You can buy your event tickets in advance from the convention website, or try to get them at the door (no guarantees any will be left!).

Oh #@!$, I've only got two weeks left to prep!
I'm guessing no special strings that M&M can pull to get them a document or something to start prepping from?
