Oh man, these covers.

Silver Crusade

Wow.

Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying the hell out of these sales, but wow.

Dear Paizo Art Department, I may have voiced some concerns about the direction the art went in Faiths of Purity, but all things considered...thank you. :)

(admittedly interested in the Aztec book)

What??

All three heroines are appropriately and sensibly attired.

(Do we know who the artist is b.t.w.?)

Because nothing says "Arctic Circle" like leather bikinis.

Endure Elements, baby!

And I'd point out for those who complained about SSG's Guide to the Time Thief (which I still need to get), at least a) she's a gamer, and b) her outfit fits the theme more than a leather bikini. (And I think has more fabric)

Sovereign Court

Goofy art.

Yeah, the Avalanche Press books were pretty notorious for making you wonder if you were buying an RPG supplement or stroke magazine.

Since I have it, let me point out

-- Yes you should. Log in. Buy the Super Genius Guide to the Time Thief.
-- Not only is Jenny Poussin an authentic Gamer Girl, she plays Pathfinder - and it in two Play-by-Posts right on this board.
-- No, her costume does not actually have more fabric then the heroines who grace these covers. :)

So, did they spend their entire dev budget on the cover art, or is there something inside worth using for gaming?

I actually have a couple of Avalanche's books, and I would have to say, Eh?

They actually have some good history, but the game elements are "okay." (They would have been better off making a collection of Lorenzo Sperlunga's art.)

Liberty's Edge

Ah yes the covers from Avalanche Press products. The running joke about the company was Avalanche Press always showing more flesh or something along those lines.

Grand Lodge

Oh yeah, I buy them for the mechanics.

alright feel free to judge. But has a married man i dont like the amount of skin paizo shows on there books.to the point that i took a magic marker and covered up all the stuff i didn't like. so when my wife plays she will not be offended either. not a big babesin bikini kinda guy like the roleplaying not the half naked women. I am a mathew 5:28 kinda guy

Ok, I'll judge you, but not for your beliefs. Rather, for spelling, grammar, and lack of capitalizations. :P

touche!

Mmm...it doesn't bother me, but doesn't seem to be the best fit either. Paizo's art is very nice in the amount of skin department, in my opinion. And some of us gamer girls take no offense at some skin - if I'm making a fantasy character, I want her to be beautiful (and show it)!

That is because "Gamer Chicks are the HAWTNESS!!!!"

I had a friend that bought their Viking Age book, and while the cover was nice, it had a horribly borked base class called the Magician. Basically, a spellcaster that could cast like a sorcerer and learn spells like a wizard. The only restriction was that he had to have his staff in hand to cast anything more than cantrips. And if his staff was sundered, it dealt 1d6 damage per spell level known to the holder and everyone adjacent to him.

Silver Crusade

Yikes. Moderately less interested in the Aztec book.

Though I did just see where they did an Egypt book....hmm...

That's what really gets me. (besides the porn shoot poses)

Conan RPG had a lot of fan service in the form of outright nudity, but it wasn't jarring or, for lack of a better word, lulzy as these covers because it fit the theme and tone of the books like a glove. And it also seemed less gratuitous. And made sense in the context of the setting.

And didn't look like a porn shoot.

The link above no longer works because the products have sold out. You can still find the listings here for a short while longer, but they will eventually go away as well.

Link still works fine here.

Sold out, eh? Well, that should provide ample explanation for those women on the cover... =)

Marvel at more of their artwork here:
Avalanche Press on RPG.net Index

I particularly like the Arnold line tracing on All for One and One for All

Counterwise, if you are really interrested in the art, check out this (NSFW) gallery.

Ahahahahaha these are great.
It reminds me of the scene in the British comedy 'Peep Show' where Jeremy attempts to masturbate to the cover of one of Mark's roleplaying books.
"Oh ~ My Bodkin!"
It doesn't matter what the topic of the book is, somehow the artist has managed to slot in a woman who wouldn't look out of place on the cover of a ManoWar album.

Even more funny that it was a mockup cover, mainly featuring a cover of Dungeon magazine (Elmore's sexy halfling descending a rope).

Yes. You know the one.
You know you do.

i most certainly do. Just read it again the other day.

Scarab Sages

On a legal note; judging by Erik's comments in the various Dave Trampier threads, TSR/WotC had some of the more generous contracts in the industry, so I'm sure Elmore kept the rights to his work.
Yup, I was right.

And based on my (albeit brief) communications with Larry, I believe he's got a sense of humour, and I'm sure he considers it a compliment.
