OK, as I understand it a summoned monster via the Summoner's ability actually lasts for minutes per level instead of just rounds per level which is cool. I also know that summoned monsters can be instructed to do tasks other than just fight for the summoner.
What I don't know is how far can a summoned creature travel away from a summoner? Is there a distance or do they just remain in service for the duration of the summons?
I never considered this before since summoned creatures didn't last that long before. I want to know so I can have the option of using summoned creatures as pullers.

Since there is nothing limiting it- either in the referenced Summon Monster spell or on the Spell-like Ability (as is called out specifically for the eidolon), it would seem to be allowed to go as far away as its movement would allow.
Q- what do mean by use it as a "puller"?

Making a guess something in MMORPG that attract the enemies away from you/your group.
To ItoSaithWebb, remember that this is a pen and paper game. The NPC don't operate with computer routines.
Most intelligent creatures will not fall for this kind of moves.

Conceivably you could summon forth 1d4 Earth Elementals and have them scout/soften up every encounter before you walk in for the mop up in a dungeon with Summon Monster III.
I've used Air Elementals for scouting missions too. The minute a level Summon Monster spell is extremely versatile. For example, if you suddenly need a ladder, or battering ram but forgot it at home you can send a Lantern Archon to teleport home grab what you need and teleport back.
You can only summon something within close range, but once summoned only their speed limits the distance a monster can travel.

OH ya I know, but doesn't hurt to try. Actually puller means that you pull enemies to the group in a strategic location so you can pick them off in lower numbers. However, I am also thinking of using this as scouts to get layouts, number of foes and so on. An air elemental using stealth can acquire a lot of vital info on enemies. My summoner speaks Auran so communication is not a problem. Also once I know if there are enemies are up ahead this gives my group ample time to prepare.

Summoned monsters can't teleport. PRD

I thought that sounded to good to be true.
