Enchanting Arrows

Rules Questions

I can't seem to find the rules for using Craft Magical Arms and Armor regarding arrow creation. I'm assuming that a quantity of 50 arrows can be enchanted for the cost of one magic weapon and that if you miss with an arrow there's a 50% chance you can reuse it- magic and all. Is this correct?

Yes - basically 50 of ammunition are made for the cost of enchanting a single weapon.

Yes

Check the Magic Items: Weapons section.

In the Weapons table that outlines the price for the cost of magic weapons there's a footnote that states "For ammunition this price is for 50 arrows, bolts or shirukens".

This section also details Magic Ammunition breakage.

These are both what you posted in your original post.

What I don't see is whether or not you have to create all 50 arrows. What if you want to create only a few +1 bane arrows? Only creating 5 costs 400 + arrow cost, and could be done in a day, compared to 8 days for a full 50. If you know, for example, what you're going to be fighting tomorrow, having the wizard pop out a few bane arrows the night before would be handy.

Our group has always played it that way i.e. 50 arrows/bolts = 1 magical long sword.

yes, but don't forget that even the broken arrows can be fixed. with really expensive arrows, some PCs even use magic to locate those that were lost in combat.

Well let me ask another question: can you create half a magic sword?

Er, no.

Is it quicker to bake fifty muffins or one?

Er, no. It's cheaper to make one, but they have to spend as long in the oven.

I would rule that it will take as long to make one arrow as to make fifty, even though the cost in materials is significantly less for making less.

That's an interesting take. Although, is a magic sword a muffin?

Er, no. Although I did just get a truly epic idea for a magic muffin weapon system....
In any case, the rules do actually allow for you to make only a handful in a relatively short time, although unlike potions, the minimum time is 8 hours of work. (4 hours if working doublespeed!) Combine this with fabricate, and suddenly the "WE NEED DEMON BANE COLD IRON ARROWS" is a much simpler matter.
