Beginner Spell Questions

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Hello again, good people.I'm reading up on the Pathfinder core, and I've come across a number of questions regarding specific spells to which i haven't been able to answer by myself. Thanks in advance for answering any or all of the questions!

1.Can the noises produced with Ghost Sound be shaped into giving an academic lecture or something of the sort?

2.What are the attack values for Mage Hand?

3.What are the HP/AC values for Mage's Faithful Hound?

4.Do attack and damage values from Magic Stone stack with the ones on a magic sling?

5.What happens when a creature that has a Geas or a Mark of Justice on it enters an Antimagic Field?

6.What the heck is a three-dimensional grid of energy described in the Order's Wrath(not a native english speaker)?

7.Do all the effects in the Prismatic Wall happen at the same time?

8.Does an illusion created by spells such as Project Image have a separate initiative track, and if yes, what’s the initiative modifier?

9.Does Rage stack with the normal barbarian rage in effects and/or duration?

10.What is the speed for the Spectral Hand?

i'll try to answer at least a few of them:

1) I think Ghost Sound only produces noise, not intelligible speech.

2) You can't attack with mage hand. Or can you? Good question.

3) Because the Hound cannot be attacked, it has neither AC nor HP.

4) As these are both enhancement bonuses, they do not stack.

5) The spell would be supressed as long as the Antimagic Field is active.

6) I think it's the 30-ft. cube area of effect. A three-dimensional cube of energy.

7) I think they happen one after another, but on the same action (passing through). No Insanity if you're already fried.

8) Your Shadow Duplicate acts on your round.

9) As these are both morale bonuses, they do not stack. Except for the penalty to AC I think.

10) As I understand it, you can touch anything within medium range and the hand flies there in an instant.

some of them may need discussion :D

Silver Crusade

1) Yes

2 )It has none. But I guess you could use ranged attack.

3) It cannot be attacked. Similar to spiritual weapon.

4) No, use the highest one. Magic weapons also provide and enhancement bonus and they do not stack.

5) They are suspended for that period. Geas will keep ticking off the time limit and it will come back in full force once the Antimagic field is no longer an issue.

6) Think of it as a cage with bars inside the cage. Not important to the spell's function though.

7) Each effect happens as you pass through the previous effect as listed.

8) No

9) They do not stack as they are both morale bonuses. Use the highest one.

10) The speed of thought. It appears up to the range to make the touch attack.

1. Unfortunately, no. "A figment that includes audible effects cannot duplicate intelligible speech unless the spell description specifically says it can." (*Edited due to Cassia Nigra's good find.)

2. Mage hand doesn't say explicitly, and there are no unofficial rulings I've heard of, but with only 5+ pounds of force behind it, I sincerely doubt it could be used to attack with a weapon of any sort. If you are the DM, I would use the other 0-level orisons as a guide, and say it could not generate more than 1d3 damage or so with a ranged touch attack.

3. There are none -- the faithful hound, as a conjuration effect, can't be attacked and damaged, but it could be dispelled, with dispel magic or any other ability that could dispel a conjuration (creation) effect.
"Creation: a creation spell manipulates matter to create an object or creature in the place the spellcaster designates. If the spell has a duration other than instantaneous, magic holds the creation together, and when the spell ends, the conjured creature or object vanishes without a trace. "

4. If they are the same type of bonus (enhancement, I believe), they do not stack, they overlap.

5. The Geas/Quest is suppressed for the length of time the victim is in the AM field. It does not end, it just gets enforced as soon as the victim leaves the field. Someone cursed with a Geas who spends several days in an AM field of some kind and who hasn't acted on the Geas is going to get smacked mightily as soon as they leave the field with a -12 penalty to all ability scores. :)

6. I think it's just colorful wording instead of saying it affects every creature in a 30-foot high by 30-foot wide by 30-foot tall cubic area. (If you use metric, that's roughly a cube 10 meters on a side.)

7. Anyone foolish enough to walk through that wall takes all 7 effects in the same round. For ease of play, I'd just run from Red to Violet and resolve each one in order.

8. No ruling has been specified, but I'd say it's irrelevant, since it cannot act independently of you, and you can only see and hear out of you or the image, not both.

9. They are the same type, so they do not stack. For duration, It would not stack, either."The important aspect of bonus types is that two bonuses of the same type don't generally stack. With the exception of dodge bonuses, most circumstance bonuses, and racial bonuses, only the better bonus of a given type works. Bonuses without a type always stack, unless they are from the same source. "

10. No speed is given, so the range is what applies. It can attack any target within range of the spell. You could attack one enemy 15 feet away from you this round, and an enemy 100 feet away from you the next round.

Hope these help!

Ghost sound definitely can't be used to give a lecture. No figment can duplicate intelligible speech unless it specifically says it can. (Under Magic - Illusion - Figment, rather than under the spell description itself. In thirty-five years of gaming I have yet to run across a rule system that gives you the information you need in the place you would automatically go to to look for it).

You could probably use it to create music though.

1. Sort of. It can sound like a lecture, but can't replicate actual words, so you can do more of an impression of a lecture, for example heard through a wall.

2. You can't attack with it. The best you could do would be to lift a crossbow and pull the trigger, or something of that sort, in which case you'd be using your own attack bonus (minus any penalty set by the GM). You certainly couldn't swing a sword or do any melee attack with enough strength to do any damage.

3. It's just a phantom. It can't be touched or hit at all (the "bite" is more of a force effect than anything).

4. No. It just adds an enhancement bonus to the sling's ammo, and the enhancement bonus from a ranged weapon does not stack with the enhancement bonus from ammunition. Only the higher of the two enhancement bonuses applies.

5. They are suspended while the target is within the field. They won't trigger, and otherwise have no effect. After they leave the field, the spells return to the state they were in before entering, but remember that time spent within an antimagic field counts against the suppressed spell's duration.

6. Like a cube, but without solid sides. Like this.

7. I've wondered about this one myself.

8. Pretty sure it goes with the caster.

9. They are both morale bonuses, so no.

10. I always thought it just allowed you to do a touch attack anywhere within the spell's range, but on reading the spell again, I'm not sure. Good question.
