How best to leverage the Celebrity's (Bard) ability to Fascinate in combat?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Would building a bard around this ability work? You lose Inspire Courage (ouch), but with Fascinate you could do very well to divide up combatants.

Bump!

Ok, I think I figured something out.

The Celebrity and Demagogue archetypes arguably stack, since Loremaster is replaced by the same ability in both.

Demagogue lets you enrage, as the spell, targets you've fascinated. Further, you can tell them to go attack a target. Buffed enemies that are now on your side and try to kill a target you designate? Awesome.

At level 8, you'll get Shining Star, which lets you give -4 to creatures to break Fascinate, as well as let you use it in combat (since obvious threats no longer auto-break, it just gives a save at -4). By this level, your Fascinate DC should be around 20 (4 from levels, 6 from Charisma)

So, you target the fighters and their low will saves, and have them turn against the enemies they are protecting.

Unfortunately, 8 levels is a long time to wait for this to pay off, but starting at that level or higher would make this very effective. Another issue is that this requires two standard actions to pull off, so it'll need two rounds.

Does that make it not worth it to use this combo?

They do not. As soon as two archetypes replace the same given feature, they cannot be combined, even if they replace it with exactly the same thing.
