First-Level Eidolons

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Despite its numerous issues, I love the summoner class because the creative freedom presented by a fully customizable magical creature is downright mouth-watering. So let's see just how many neat concepts we can think up for a first-level summoner's eidolon, using just three evolution points.

The Boxer: has the body of an muscular man with disproportionately large fists and the head of a square-muzzled dog. Biped; improved damage (slam), scent, slam (replaces claws).

Slithers: a halfling-sized slug-like thing that compensates for its weakness with tough and slippery skin that lets it avoid most attacks. Small serpentine; improved natural armor, ability increase (Dex).

Personal Armorer: a slightly gnomish, slightly dwarven lackey that supplies its master's party with equipment. Small biped; skilled (Craft (armor)), skilled (Craft (bows)), skilled (Craft (weapons)).

I really want to see your ideas.

The Lexicon: a small sized eidolon resembling the fusion of an animal and a large tome; small sized (and base form), all evolution points go towards the Skilled evolution, which are in turn applied to knowledge skills. Basically, a walking, talking library. This eidolon is not intended for combat use.

Hey look - it's Guen as a kitty!
Quadriped, Claws, Improved Damage(Claws), Pounce

The Little Arcanist's Mount
Serpentine, Mount, Swim, Push
Alternately: Trade Swim for Unnatural Aura if you tend to get attacked by forest critters

This is a good guide, but a bit dated. It needs to be updated with UM materials to remain valid. It's good though.

It's pretty easy to bring it up to date, though. Except for low-light vision and see in darkness, the new evolutions are horrible, especially the spellcasting ones. Spend 12 Evolution Points to cast a 3rd level spell once per day?

Can't you give an Eidolon with Ultimate Magic(Fireball) a Wand of Fireballs to use?

Spell-like abilities don't grant the ability to use spell-trigger and spell-completion items as far as I know. You'd be much better off giving your eidolon the skilled (use magic device) evolution and put ranks into use magic device. Even then, what good is a Wand of Fireball? It costs more than 10,000 gp does 5d6 and has a Save DC of 14. By the time you could take the Ultimate Magic evolution, that's rather horrible. Isn't it better to let the summoner use such items while the eidolon attacks?
