Can a dragonne be an animal companion?

Rules Questions

It's listed in the pfsrd as an option, but in this thread one of the designers mentions that it's not an animal. Is there any other information on this?

Liberty's Edge

The pfsrd is a good resource but it's not always accurate. Remember that pfsrd.com is a fan maintained site, not the Paizo reference site.

The official Paizo reference site is:

The dragonne entry on pfsrd.com still says the dragonne is part of the Core Pathfinder rules, even though it really is not. It was from the bonus bestiary, which was a preview which came out before the first Bestiary.

The dragonne is not even in either of the Pathfinder bestiaries to my knowledge.

Also, as was pointed out, a dragonne is not an animal and so would not be a good animal companion in any case.

Alright, thanks!

We statted up the dragonne (all of the monsters in the Bonus Bestiary, in fact) before the core rules were 100% complete, and thus there are a few things in there that ended up being handled differently. One of those was the concept of a dragonne as an animal companion—those rules are outdated now; you can't take a dragonne as an animal companion since it's not an animal.

Just to clarify, is the Dragonne the only thing in the Bonus Bestiary that can't be used as an animal companion?

Can an Axe Beak still be taken as an animal companion?

The axe beak is an animal (the only one in there, in fact). It therefore works fine as an animal companion.

Excellent. That's what I figured, but I wanted to make sure.

Thanks.
