There's quite alot going on besides the main plot in HOD atm, good that it doesn't bore anyone.

I can't imagine anything that could hinder us hitting 5k :)

@ Pitr: I know a girl who has a moustache tattooed on her index finger, so she is able to put it on and off in a sec.. :)

Every so often I totally lack the words to say in English what my mind imagines in German, lol...and then, simply looking the words up does not really help because of collocation issues...bla :/

funny--it took me quite some time to realize you're not a "primary" English speaker, and even so I only suspected it, was never sure until just now.

Well, just so you know, I've never felt like your English has detracted from the game in any way in either of the campaigns I'm in :P

You write better english than most americans.

Perhaps I am a lucksack, but I fear that it may run out soon. I was sure that 20 for the endgame was going to win the game, but against stronger players, mathematically I realize that it will be very difficult to win. The +15 versus the +10 makes a huge difference. Especially when we each have three roles that affect the other rolls. Well, regardless of the outcome, I had a really good time competing in the tournament! Perhaps if my luck goes south, I will just have to invest some more skill points in Tzarek and try for a rematch at some point. I am curious, after midnight will I get the Boon of Abacus back or will I need to sleep first?

Divine Gamemaster of the Abyss and below...

@ Tark: Oh yeah, my bad^^ the pouch contained 25 gp.
@ Kyren: Yes, I was really surprised that you made it to top 3, which is a real success.

I'm really digging how the current action is going--it's like a movie where in one scene one of the main characters is fighting for his life through one method (the Tzarek game) and another is doing so in another (actual fighting). It's neat! :-)

I have a character build question for anyone who cares to comment (or just read) concerning Vaughn in HoD campaign.

Vaughn build question:
So, my original concept of Vaughn was a street thug fighter who uses two daggers almost exclusively. From a character standpoint, it made sense--those are just about the only weapons he'd have access to as a poor kid. and, from a mechanical standpoint, it makes a LOT of sense to have a missle/melee weapon you can carry lots of and dedicate lots of feats to (Focus/Spec, Gr Foc/Spec, imp crit).

I've been thinking recently, though, that it may be both in-character, and mechanically sound, to go rapier/dagger. My current feat progression goes up to level 17 built as a dagger fighter, so I'd have to rearrange stuff if I wnated Focus/Spec Rapier--but with a single weapon like that I would be much more likely to get a Keen weapon rather than have to devote a feat to Imp Crit (unlike daggers where I'd carry a bunch and throw them). And, since Vaughn still sort of embraces his thug roots but is trying to get away from that life, moving to a more "elegant" style of fighting kind of makes sense to me.

thoughts? suggestions? Comments? Is it necessary, or even desirable, to see my current progression ideas?

** spoiler omitted **

Daggers are better than Rapier/Dagger and Kukris are better than daggers. I say go the Kukri route instead since it'll look prettier in the end at least the way I envision kukri fighting. It also opens up the idea of throwing down soem rather nasty critical feats later on and let's you get tons of ileage out of weapon mastery later.

Karlan is a Shield Bashing /TWF but he has smite evil (and later spells) to back up his choices. Fighters are better off TWF with one kind of weapon.

@Vaughan
Build comments.

I (romantically) like the Rapier/Dagger combo, although in all honesty a Rapier/Shortsword worked 'better' when I looked at it a while back.

Two Kukri's are also quite strong, and down the track become excellent, I would go so far as to call them 'a bit too good' but hey they are legal.

Two Daggers - a solid pairing. Outside the basic 'mechanics', Daggers can also be a thrown weapon in a pinch, adding a (short) ranged capability. They are also easily concealable, and readily replaceable. The thing I have noted after being in DMZ's campaigns for a while is they sort of mirror the way I run campaigns; we can't take for granted that Keen weapons will come our way, and we can't take for granted we will always have our gear - so being skilled at a weapon that is common as dirt is always an advantage. Similarly Daggers are (RAW) easier to conceal than most weapons - I suspect this will come up at SOME point.

Just sayin.

I like the twin dagger style, and its in 'keeping' with a down and dirty fighter.

Don't worry so much about optimising in this campaign, go with what suits you.

Lets face it, Alcheringa is level 4 with no money, wearing normal leather armour, a non magical weapon, and 1 minor magic item he can't use day to day. We certainly aren't optimisers :p

VC - Sydney, Australia

DMZ, oddball question, so just floating it out there...

You may or may not have been checking out Winter Snow and his great mates in Second Darkness, but if you HAD you'd have noted the GM has basically (it appears) departed the game, leaving a good group of four still ticking along, watching, waiting, and hoping.

Now I'm not putting anyone on the spot or anything, but some of the guys were suggesting the concept of finding a new GM, so I thought 'who better than the most reliable one I know...', so just floating it past you as to whether you had tome to grab another game or not? We have four people in the early stages, two have vanished, but the four we have are pretty good.

Anyhow, appreciate the consideration either way.

Divine Gamemaster of the Abyss and below...

@ Shifty. I feel honoured that you asked me and I really toyed with the idea to do a Second Darkness game, but I don't have the time to offer more than the DM who does not show up any more...sadly .

Anyway, I really hope you find someone; Winter Snow is such a pure character in defiled Riddleport, he has to survive, otherwise the city's going down the gutter :)

VC - Sydney, Australia

Yeah it is a bit sad. Was looking like a good group, the pure LG Cleric acting as the Aegis shield for the downtrodden against the corrupt and the evil, and stuck in a party of rogues...! Fun while it lasted, might save the character for another rainy day.

You were the natural person to ask, shame you don't have the time, but hey you are running a lot as it is!

Divine Gamemaster of the Abyss and below...

Really a shame :(

I just hope you find someone else, Second Darkness is a cool AP

VC - Sydney, Australia

I have to admit, I'm a little apprehensive about PBP's lasting the distance these days :p

Divine Gamemaster of the Abyss and below...

I must admit that when I started HOD about half a year ago, I didn't even think about the possibility that so many people could be leaving during the course of it...delays for sure, pauses ok, but leave entirely?

Only if my country decides to cancel all internet connections...and since I'm neither living in China nor Iran I wasn't worried about that :)

VC - Sydney, Australia

I am surprised by HOD, like I mean, I came in to fill gaps - yet now am the only person still there. Never mind, cooking well now.

Divine Gamemaster of the Abyss and below...

There was a point where I thought "HOD is going down the drain", since Esfana, Torald, Leshok, Elsbeth, Drayen, Martinaj and Von Doom left. So I lost like 6 players during the first 500 posts lol...I was really doubting I did a good job DMing.

VC - Sydney, Australia

HOD Problem =/= GM.
Anyhow, its fixed now :P

Divine Gamemaster of the Abyss and below...

Absolutely, the party is great now and when Garabott's buddy arrives we are rolling again with five players.

Dungeon Master

Zyren, Don't ever doubt you DMing! Your campaigns are sensational and are an inspiration to me. They continuously set a high standard of suspense, intrigue, plot, characters, humor, and role playing. I only aspire to make my own adventures as stellar. Thanks again for all the time and effort you put into all of your campaigns!!! :-)

I gave him information, but haven't heard from him in a few days. Hope he shows up soon, or we can move on. I'll call him today.

Also, I'm going out of town today and won't be back until tomorrow morning. DMPC me as necessary.
