Randy "Macho-Man" Savage is dead

"Macho Man" Randy Savage, a professional wrestler who became a fan favorite thanks to his outlandish outfits and trademark catchphrase, died Friday in a car wreck, according to TMZ.

The 58-year-old Savage reportedly suffered a heart attack while driving his 2009 Jeep Wrangler in Tampa, Fla., and careened across lanes of oncoming traffic before colliding head-on with a tree. He died later at a local hospital.

Savage's wife Lynn, who was riding in the passenger seat, escaped with only minor injuries. Both passengers were wearing seatbelts and the police do not believe alcohol was a factor.

I remember seeing Randy Savage wrestle many times on television, PPV's, and live once. He will be remembered...

RIP Macho Man.

I remember meeting him at a car show signing years ago; I must have been about twelve or so. He and Elizabeth were two hours late, but he signed a picture for me and shook my hand but refused my friend's request to touch his World Championship belt. Heh.

R.I.P. Macho Man. =(

The man had a voice and personality that made wrestling fun. They've branded themselves as sports entertainment and the Macho Man could certainly bring the entertainment.

Sad that most wrestlers of the modern age die young. I hope his heart condition wasn't a result of steroid abuse. I know WWF (now known as WWE) liked their wrestlers big, as if extra muscle made the man drama more entertaining. As a result steroids were used to pump the guys up. Publicly they would take a stand against steroids but privately the abuse continued and might have even been encouraged. Randy Savage, Roddy Piper, Jerry Lawler, I would have watched them no matter their size. They were actors on the square stage. I haven't watched wrestling in years but I suspect that there aren't many able to fill their shoes.

Sad news. Macho Man was always my favourite wrestler, he just always seemed to have such a fun energy about him.

I know what you mean. When I met him he asked my name to dedicate his autograph. One of his handlers, unprompted, spelled my name out-loud for the big man's benefit. Macho Man merely paused, looked at the guy and said: "Thanks man. I can spell." ;)

You should eat one in memory of him. Go ahead, snap in.

The May 21st apocalypse may just happen now that there is no Macho Man to save us. :(

I'm saddened. I was always hoping he'd get some sort of last hurrah. Playing Bonesaw in Spider-Man was great and all, but not quite what I had in mind.

Goddess rest him.

Thanks for all the childhood memories, memes, and fun Randy Savage.

May all the Heavens resound with an "OH YEAAAAAAAAH" upon your arrival.

I'm in shock. I loved watching him, he enjoyed his work and it showed.

Even weirder, since I always thought of him as one of the grand old masters...he was younger than me!

Just read about how he and Hulk Hogan had recently finally rekindled their old friendship.

Hogan's comments were heartbreaking.

I haven't come across them just yet, but I can't help but remember him on the square stage with great fondness during the 1980's.

After hearing this news I could not find one of the BIG Slim Jims to save my life.

"OOOOHHHHH YYEEAAAAAHHH!!!" - Randy Savage, you are missed.

Now elbow drop some punks waiting in line at the Pearly Gates!

Wow, I just came home from a visit to my sister... man, Randy Savage was someone whose performance I always enjoyed. RIP, Macho Man. :(

I will miss him. He made the hour fun to watch and I think all the kids in the eighties wanted to be him. "Be the bad guy and have the girl! Hell yeah!"
